So far everyone is telling demonstrators to be calm. Sorry I feel some type of way about this. I don't see everyone telling the Klan to not shoot Black people/

I feel the same way. They WERE calm after that first day, and look what it got them. Tanks in the streets and tear gas shot at them. Fuck that. Why not tell the POLICE to be calm.

Exactly. I feel like a lot of this is build up in such a way so they can say "see? they're violent and angry" as a way to excuse their prior behavior.
The prosecutor said that if the grand jury doesn't return an indictment, he will seek to have all the evidence they considered released.
I posted in one of the other posts last night that this may not happen. McCulloch has said in multiple interviews that it was already approved by the judge. Then yesterday the rep for the judges said that is has not been approved.
He has said this from the get go, but the judge needs to approve it. For weeks he left that important detail out. He put all the evidence to the GJ to let them decide. He is one of the slickest snakes ever. Put all the responsibility on others so you come out clean.

yeah, those candlelight vigils on August 9th were really fucking violent, America. I didn't see you caring then.

Exactly. My mom lives near Shaw, where many protests have taken place with the Myers shooting. Protestors walked down her street, right in front of her house and she slept through it. I am worried for her safety, I am not overlooking that violence may happen, I have made sure she has a bag packed because I am more scared the police will over react again and be shooting tear gas off on her street.

Abso-fucking-lutely. Everything I've heard in the pressers so far has been admonishing "protestors", which we know is code for black folks. And I'd even go so far as to say the MO government is intentionally whipping up a frenzy by imposing a premature state of emergency, saying churches are prepared to be disaster shelters, pushing back the announcement, etc.

So are there any penalties when it's the gov't that is inciting a riot? *sigh*

I'm going to go ahead and guess that they're a bunch of white dudes, so...
I understand the logistics of getting kids home and making it so people can commute home, but I can't help but also feel uneasy about the time they are doing the announcement. It seemed the police worked themselves in a military-state frenzy the most at night (I know it wasn't exclusive but if I'm remembering correctly it was worse at night). And I can't help but feel like that is the same road they are going to go down this time, especially given the state they've whipped everyone in with the media propaganda they have been putting out for the past month. It's just easier to be intimidating at night.
Hi, popping in from another board here because I was curious if anyone was discussing this.
I'm in St. Louis. The grocery stores have been packed this afternoon like a blizzard is coming. It's been pretty tense around here.
A large group of school superintendents asked the prosecutor to announce the decision on a weekend or after school hours. Ferguson borders several school district, and the courthouse is in an entirely different municipality (there are huge crowds gathering there). They were really concerned about kids getting home safely if there are crowds, protests, etc. So that's a big reason why this is not being done during the school day.
Every channel here is reporting from Ferguson and Clayton (where the courthouse is). I can even hear helicopters overhead.
I worry for what is going to happen tonight. I hate my city being seen in this light

Well, to be fair, it is 3 days before Thanksgiving.

I really thought they would wait until late Wednesday in the hopes that the country would be too busy traveling and stuffing their faces to pay attention.
They wanted to do it earlier - they are concerned that all the crazies from out of state who have Thanksgiving off are actually going to flood the town to protest... and they were mostly the ones who were arrested before so it would probably be the same.
I'm not bothering with CNN tonight. MSNBC usually drives me more crazy than CNN, but they had the best coverage by far back in August, so they will be my buddies this evening.

Hold up. So because they (out of towners) want to participate in the protest they're crazy?
CNN is saying that because he has not been asked to turn himself in, there will be no indictment? Is this a logical line of reasoning?
Wilson hasn't shown his face in public since this happened. There's no way he can just waltz on into the station to turn himself in. If he's indicted, I'm sure they will pick him up from his safe house in an armored car.
