Because if you do, your 4-year old will throw a snack cup at a bajillion dollar painting.
Like mine did today.
I was completely mortified. Thankfully, no damage was done to the painting. Needless to say, we will not be visiting the museum for the next 10 years. No more culture for this kid.
Mine opened a fire door. It set off a blaring alarm through the entire museum. The only way to turn it off was for employee to go through a maze of rooms which took an eternity. We were clearly the cause of the noise too.
We still go though. I just didn't take him to the Chihuly glass exhibit. I would tell him for many visits why he can't have snacks at the museum. DS loves the fire alarm story.

We went to our art museum a couple months ago. Nothing bad happened, but they wouldn't let us carry Nods on our back. So I guess a toddler on the loose is preferable?
I have taken my kids to the art museum twice. Interestingly, it was H who almost got kicked out because he was snapping photos of the art with his cell phone. And, yes, I told him this was not allowed.
If it matters, the snacks from the cup were eaten in the car. For some reason, he still had it with him. We had only been in maybe three rooms when this happened.
