DH left this chair: www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=24099536 with one of DD's toys out in our three season A LITTLE too long into the season…by the time he brought it in, there were mould marks on the material of the chair and parts of the toy.
I washed it once in hot water, stains didn't come out, and then soaked it in stripper in hot water for 3 hours and ran it through the cycle again. Black marks all still there...
I am going to toss the toy, babies put those in their mouths…I am going to cut off the plastic pieces and let her play with those parts, the cloth parts I am tossing.
The cloth part of the chair is what I am wondering about…do I...
- toss it? - wash it again in bleach? - wait til spring, wash it in bleach and hang it in the sun? - just use it as is.
DH feels like the stains aren't indicative of mould, just staining. I am being slightly less breezy. Cheap enough to not want to buy a new one, but not breezy enough to let my soon to be newborn just sit in something that has mould stains on it.
The dots are staining from the mildew, but you have very likely killed the mildew. This happened to a lot of our stuff this summer (strollers, etc.) because it was so swampy.
Is there a difference between mildew and mould? I am sure I can google..
Google tells me that mildew can be removed with Oxyclean most likely so I will get some and try that! If I can get the stains out I will feel a lot better.
