i am trying to buy for next fall/winter, which i realize i might not be able to end up doing.
if she follows her growth curve she is estimated to be 34-36 inches next year. do they really grow in height that much?! weight estimates would be around 22-24lb.
i should buy based on height right? so 2t? is 2t wider than 24m? or should i buy based on weight for some types of clothes and height for others?
she is in mostly 6-12 right now but im moving her into 12-18m because her clothes are short.
also, any recommendations for long and skinny brands?
ETA: she is 14m now and will be 2 next fall/winter. i compared the cdc and who charts. the cdc and who vary wildly for weight at 24m but not for height. i can't imagine L will gain more than a few lbs though.
At one year, DS was 25lbs and almost 32in. At 2 years, he was 32lbs and 37 inches. I say buy a mix of height and weight based. Especially since some brands run small or run big
I've been pretty lucky buying ahead so far. E is a bit taller than average, but I've just found brands that run long (ie-jumping beans leggings are pretty long in the 24m, where as ON runs short).
This is also why I love HA. She has stuff that was 70s and 80s last winter that still fit this winter. They're either shirt or tunic length.
FWIW, I tend to buy ahead more in tops/dresses than pants/leggings. She's got long legs, so that's where I have to usually go based on current size.
Something sounds off with that weight. DS is 37" and roughly 32lbs-he's about 60% for height and weight based on the CDC charts for age 3. I'd have to dig up what he was at age 2, but he has only gained about 1-2lbs in the past year and he was right around 50% last year for height/weight.
I have basically all of his clothes from now until 5T. I have found buying ahead to be great-what was big on him at the end of winter last year fits great right now. I'm starting to pull out his clothes from the 3T bin; they're all big. He went from 18-24m pants to 3T in a matter of weeks. I have a hard time getting the pants to cinch tight enough and the kid has no butt without a diaper. IME 2T is narrower than 24m. It has been a bit shorter too.
I also have no issues with buying ahead because I get things dirt cheap; if it doesn't fit, I resell at a consignment sale and get most, if not all of my money back.
DD1 was that size at her 1 year appt (Nov 2012) and DD2 is very close to that as well right now at a year. DD1 was in 2t all last winter and then by spring a mix of 2t and 3t (2t for bottoms especially in the summer since she was so skinny).
We basically do Gap skinny jeans (tightened almost all the way) and then leggings from Gap, Children's Place and Old Navy. T-shirts I avoid Circo from Target and Crazy 8 because they run wide IMO.
I buy ahead religiously. Chances are really good my kid will fit into every size for leggings at some point in time so I'm not concerned about that. Same with short sleeved t-shirts and pjs (as long as they aren't fleece).
Plus Kohls has a 1 year return policy and Carters and Osh Kosh has no return limit.
