We haven't had a working washer AND dryer since before the baby was born. For a while, we had a working dryer so I would take everything to the laundromat, wash it, then bring it home for the dryer. We moved and then had neither so the laundromat and I became begrudging partners. We moved again and a friend was replacing her washer and gave us her old one. For some reason, I have no interest in doing the opposite, washing clothes and then hauling them to the laundromat (collecting enough wet clothes to be worth the trip seems stupid, idk if I can explain it.)
Anyway, on Black Friday, I bought a used dryer at the ReStore. I installed it tonight and guess what? It doesn't turn on. So I figure, fine, I'll install the washer at least. Well, when I pulled out the washer, there is water behind it. Not much but weird but I install it anyway, I turn on the hoses, and it leaks behind the wall where it plugs in. I can hear it dripping back there.
So after being excited as fuck by the prospect of no longer having to visit the laundromat, I feel like someone kicked my dog.
Do you think there's any hope for the machines to work, with a little bit of work done to them?
I'm sure the washer works. The friend who gave it to me is kind of anal lol. There is no way she would have passed on a washer than didn't work. I have to get the landlord out here to figure out what's leaking where and fix it.
I don't know about the dryer but you bet your sweet ass I'm going back to the ReStore to ask them about the dryer because no.
I'm just mad because I should have installed it yesterday and then I could have done my work laundry today. I have to go in at 10 tomorrow. I'm going to have to get up when my kids do to take my uniforms to the laundromat and then go back to turn them over when my husband gets home.
And when I'm mad, I want to cry so double weepy over here lol.

I made the mistake of starting a shift in wet clothes once: I had my shirt on my vents the whole way over and it was still fucking gross.

I would cry too. I spent most of my life without a washer and dryer in my home. Laundry is the worst chore ever so when you can't do it in the comfort of your own home, especially when you should be able to do it at home as in your case, it really really blows.
I hope the landlord fixes the washer and I hope ReStore makes things right.

Of course you can!
The absolute best feature in my house IMO is no longer having to go outside to do laundry. H thinks I'm weird but he's never had to collect quarters or get up early on a Wed to avoid the rush to do laundry.

The washer is running. It's dripping water on the fucking floor but I need clean clothes for tomorrow.
I knew I should have bought cake/ice cream/pie at the store today.
tillie, I'll check the relay switch, thanks. The dryer looks to be in really good condition, fwiw. It had the owner's manual in it and looks to be a one owner type of deal.

I would be crying.
Hell, I wept over laundry that I had spent an hour folding, that my asshole 5 year old totally dumped out and threw all over the floor looking for gloves (that were already in the drawer).
You've probably already tried this, but try unscrewing the hoses and screwing them back in? Maybe one was put on crooked and that's causing it to leak. Or possibly there's a pinhole in one of them. Maybe it's a simple fix!

Do you think maybe it's the hose? Mine started leaking when we moved. I don't know if I did something to it when taking it out at the old house or installing it here. Buying a new hose was a cheap fix at least.

The hoses are brand new. I bought them myself and it's leaking from under the connection
I would totally cry. We've been in this house almost 6 years and I still do a little happy dance every time I don't have to step outside to do laundry.
