BRISBANE, Australia — An Australian mother and father issued a birth retraction in their local newspaper.
The Courier-Mail reported Yolanda Bogart placed the retraction as a show of support for her now-son.
It reads: “In 1995 we announced the arrival of our sprogget Elizabeth Anne as a daughter. Oops our bad. We would like to present our wonderful son — Kai Bogert. Loving you is the easiest thing in the world. Tidy your room.”
Yolanda Bogart said Kai told her a few days earlier he no longer wanted to live as a female.
“I needed to show my son I support him 100 percent and wanted to let the world know that,” Bogart said. “It is all very new to us.”
Kai told the newspaper he hasn’t had hormones or made any decisions about reassignment surgery.
“I am so happy with what she has done,” Kai said. “This last week has changed everything for me. I am still me, but I am more me than I was a few days ago and feel free.”
I saw that yesterday and got a little tear in my eye. So sweet.
I especially love the ending - "tidy your room" - I think it really hits home that for them this isn't a mind-blowing change in the way that they will love and parent their child, regardless of their gender.
I just want to like everybody's post because I love everything about this. "Tidy your room" indeed. Great parenting leads to a great kid. It says a lot that they took it with such ease, but more so that their child was able to come to them to speak on the subject in the first place.
"Not gonna lie; I kind of keep expecting you to post one day that you threw down on someone who clearly had no idea that today was NOT THEIR DAY." ~dontcallmeshirley
