My boys are loving it, but we take them to a lot of plays. So I explained how this is like a play on TV, not a movie. They even saw Peter Pan on stage last Christmas or the year before. (Ages 8 and 6 - the 2 year old mostly just ate pizza and grapes in the living room.)
I think it's pretty good, but have only watched part of it. Plus I've never seen Peter Pan on stage where Peter wasn't played by a girl and the kids don't seen to mind that or the old lost boys short pants.
We only watched the first hour, but DS loved it which pleases me. He remarked on the wires but they didn't seem to bother him. It's not great but I like it. I like that they're trying different stuff, especially that kids can watch. (OMG I sound like Tipper Gore.)
And I love Christian Borle. He's from my hometown. I first saw him and Sutton Foster in Thoroughly Modern Millie a long time ago and I've been a fan ever since.
I was quite disappointed with Walken and the pirates in general; watched up to the point where Tiger Lily was trying to warn the Lost Boys. Dare I say I think Walken was too old, and downplayed it a bit; it should have been played more energetic and campy IMO. I thought overall to that point it was far better than SOM, Lost Boys were good dancers, and the beginning scenes in the home were well done; drew me in more than I expected (the mom particularly was very sweet).

My husband thought the same about walken. I kept waiting for him to interject that he needed more cowbell.
DD said, "he is really old but you can tell he is a good dancer. I bet he was really good before he got old and tired."
And DH examined to DD that Peter Pan is usually played by a woman because there are so many lines they need a grow up to play the part, and it is usually only women who are small enough and who can hit the high notes that boys can hit when they are singing.
She loves drama class so that sufficed and she loved it until bedtime and wanted to know if she can watch the rest tonight.
I am sure Brian Williams was super proud of his daughter last night!
I am so excited about this, and logically I know it will probably be just as terrible as The Sound of Music, but my hopes are still sky high.
I DVR'd it and haven't watched it - partly because my hopes aren't sky high at all.
But for me, it could never compare to the Sound of Music debacle - mainly because there have already been so many different movie and stage productions of Peter Pan that none are sacred to me. I haven't watched a one of them as many times as I've seen TSOM.
Maria and the Captain will always be Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer to me and no one else. Peter Pan isn't nearly as iconic for me.
Walken was exactly as I expected Walken to be. That's just who he is.
Haven't watched the whole thing yet, we'll let my kids finish it tonight but we had to tell them Peter Pan was actually a girl. They even thought she sounded like a boy.
I only wanted to watch it because of the Christopher Walken impression Jimmy Fallon did one night weeks ago on his show when he was doing a Dictionary skit and the word was Pita. It had my H and I in hysterics and every time we saw a commercial for the PP show we would walk around saying "Pita, you know, I'm Captain Hook." I think it's around the minute mark on the video. www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVUfGHpCY90
I feel like CW was too boring for this version. He probably was thinking there'd be more close ups and it'd come off more film-acting-ish, so he was being more subtitle?
Since when are the lost boys played by a bunch of dudes in their 20s and 30s? Yeesh.
I have always found all things Peter Pan mildly disturbing, to be honest. Theres something creepy about the whole gig. Maybe its because of Pantomime. Maybe its Peter often being played by a girl. Maybe its the story. All I know is I think its creepy and have felt like that since I was a kid lol.
I felt the same way growing up.
And I can't think of Peter Pan without thinking of Peter Pan Guy, from the internets, who lives his life as the Disney Character. He's all I can see when I think of Peter Pan, for like over a decade now, and I don't think I could ever watch that movie again.
I saw/met that guy in real life a few years ago. He's everything you'd expect and more!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I need the context. Where/how did you meet him? What did you discuss?!

Hahaha. It's not that crazy of a story, we met at the Renn Faire here in SoCal. Random people are always talking to randoms there and the group I was with was curious about his outfit. I was the only one though who knew of his website, everyone was pretty amused when I filled them in later. In any case, he was nice, a bit shy in real life and awkward (shocking, I know) and his "Tinkerbell" did most of the talking. He mostly just stood around looking at people looking at him and sort of "posing" (think of his fashion photos).

That is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah I have to say it was an unexpected sighting, knowing he lived(s?) in Florida.
