I used to take 20 for adult ADHD. They make me feel like the me that I know I am, if that makes sense. At first they made it difficult to fall asleep, but after about a week I went back to normal. Dry mouth was the only other side effect they gave me. Well, and an increased sex drive, but no complaints there.
I have an appointment next week to get set up on taking them again. I just hope that they don't try to push something different on me. I'm overall happy with how they affect me.
I took it in HS and part of college. It helped with focus. But it also caused my appetite to be seriously depressed to where in HS, I was underweight. Also, I was a hose beast when I was coming down off of it in the evening. I was a horrible human being. It was not my miracle drug. I took Dexedrine in the second half of college and that was much better.
DS takes Adderall for ADHD- 40 mg daily. He does really well on it; he tried Concerta but it was a bad fit. He took Dexedrine XR before that but needed longer coverage as he got into middle school.
My mother took Ritalin in the old days for narcolepsy. She was a hosebeast on it; I always wondered if Dexedrine would have been a better choice for her but her doc never trialed it. She took codeine for a while before she retired. The DH of a friend takes Provigil; he likes it better than either Adderall or Concerta. He supposedly has hypersomnia but I've always wondered about whether he also has OSA (he snores like a bull moose- I've camped with him-he scares bears). Plus her switches times zones for work 3 weeks out of 4.
For maybe the first couple of days your will be a bit jittery and super energized but after a couple days, the jitteryness will go away. I'm on 20mg XR and the 10mg immediate release. Also, for ADD.
I take concerta (another similar ADHD drug) for Narcolepsy and it has made a huge difference in my quality of life. I was totally skeptical but it just keeps me not wanting to fall asleep during the day. Not jittery or anything. I was concerned how it would affect me since it seemed like most people I knew who took it was in college recreationally but my doctor said if you actually need the medication it doesn't have the same affects.

I take 20mg daily for ADD. The first time I took it my heart raced and I felt kind of crazy for about 10 minutes. That's the only time it's had that effect on me.

I don't take adderall, but previously I took ritalin and currently I take nuvigil for my hypersomnia. You might feel a bit antsy, but that's not a terribly high dose so you should be ok.
My thing when I started it was that I was so used to being tired, that feeling awake was confusing and weird for me. I didn't feel bad, just not my normal exhausted self.

How do you like Nuvigil? My dr would have prescribed me that if it didn't interfere with birth control.
Do you take anything to help you sleep or stay asleep?
The downfall is the birth control issue, but I got the Paragard IUD right before I started taking it so I'm still covered in that department. Other than that, I pretty much love it. It a bit more gentle (I can't think of a better word) feeling to me, then a pure stimulant.
I don't take anything to fall asleep, no, though I could probably use it some nights. I also have obstructive sleep apnea, so sleeping medications can worsen that. I wear a dental device thing to help with the breathing issues.

My H takes it for Narcalepsy. He still can fall asleep on it. It doesn't make him bouncy at all. I took one and it made me really jittery.
Before I get flamed I will add that I have ADD and tried a few different pills at various times to see if they would help. I far I haven't found one that does.
When my H takes a Benedryl he can't stay awake. When I take one I can stay up for two days and clean my house without getting tired.
No moral to the story other than try it and see what happens.
