Passenger side, as DH can't comfortably drive with it on the driver's side. And teenage DN frequently sits in the back and would be squished with it in the middle, plus it would be hard for me to get it in and out.
Someone told me that driver's side is safer in collisions, as you instinctively turn toward the passenger's side in a crash, but passenger's side is safer for getting in and out when parked on the street.
Currently in the middle in DH's truck. It was in the middle when I had my SUV but as of a few months ago we got a van with captains chairs. It was on the passenger side until we took a road trip last month and we moved it to the driver side for convenience. We haven't moved it back yet and I'm not sure we will.

With just one kid, it was always behind the passenger.
The middle position was not recommended for car seats in the car I had at the time. And putting it behind the driver meant DH could never drive b/c it prevented him from moving his seat back far enough to fit.
I've never tried to install a seat in the middle when we use cars. It's just easier to deal with the outside when you're taking the whole seat in and out each ride.
With two, we had DD2 in the middle and DD1 behind the passenger seat.
With three, we now have captain's chairs with DS behind the driver, DD2 behind the passenger, and DD1 in the third row. This arrangement is all for ease of use.

DD is on the passenger side, but I am considering switching her to the driver's side since the seat does compromise my visibility (blind spot). pugz do you have that issue?
If you have it behind the driver and are generally the only person in the car, are you able to pass things back/see your kid? (RFing)

I wasn't able to. She and I had to deal until we got where we were going or I found somewhere to pull over. I now have that issue with my son because we moved to a minivan this week and my daughters are in the third row. When all three were in the middle row of my SUV I handed stuff to the older kids and they got it to him.
we have it in the middle. I don't think it's difficult to get her in and out, but I've never had it anywhere else. I like the middle because we have a small car and both the driver and passenger seats can be set all the way back and recline a little that way.

middle. we can borrow the inner latch from the outsides (yay for tiny cars with tiny backseats!) and we bought our car seat strategically so that it fits between the front seats and allows the most leg room.
if we weren't juggling those factors, i'd move it outboard, probably to the driver's side. we don't have easy access to the passenger side when we park at our house.
DD is behind the passenger. When #2 gets here they will both be in the outboard positions. My car doesn't have LATCH in the middle and when I had DD in the middle the seat belt became unbuckled a few times without me realizing it so I avoid that spot at all cost. I don't believe my car allows for Latch borrowing, but maybe I should double check.

heygrey check your manuals to be sure, but I don't think you're supposed to borrow outside latches for the middle. I can't say that for sure, but that's what I have always thought/heard.

hmm it's never really been an issue and now that she's FF it's definitely not a problem. However it is kind of hard to get her in with the cupholder now on the outer side. But only one of our garage doors opens so...not gonna change the seat to behind the drivers side, lol.

With just one, it was in the middle so the front seats could move up or back and recline. Now, DS2 of in the middle and DS1 is behind the passenger, mostly for convenience.

I believe this is car dependent. It is based on the width between the latches. I know DH's Mercury Milan says it is ok to do.

Good to know! I'll have to check mine. The middle WOULD be more convenient.

it's definitely okay! the guy who owns the store we bought the seat from is a car seat tech and he checked the manual himself and then installed the seat for us.
(it's a 2010 Hyundai Accent, but I'll throw the caveat that it is a Canadian car and I have no idea if regulations are different in the states.)
I don't understand all this middle seat hate. I have a Chico next fit that is rf and is always so awkward to get Nods in when she's on the side. The middle was much easier, because I could sit and lift her. It was also nicer when it rained or was cold.
I'm 5' tall and he is already 34" tall, so to heave him over my head I often stain something or bonk his poor head on the roof. I have a larger sedan.
