If you have only one child? Ours is in the middle but it is so hard to get him in there, is it that much of a difference to move him to the edge? If so is one side preferable over the other?
Behind the driver in my car, behind the passenger in dh's truck, he is ff. he was in the middle when he was in the bucket but when we moved to a convertible we moved outboard because it was easier, plus our car manual recommends outboard positioning.

We have out seat on the passenger side, we only have one. The car seat tech that helped H with the infant seat actually recommended one side instead of the middle because it's easier to get the child in and out of the seat and the side impact protection of the both the seat and the side curtain airbags was enough.

When we only had one child the carseat was behind the driver because I was the primary driver and DH had trouble fitting in front of the RF seat. Our car didn't have a middle seat in back, so even if that is theoretically safest it was not an option in that car.

DD is in the middle. She is 8 months old. It is a PITA the get her in and out and I often bump her head on the car when I take her out. Trying to find a better way to get her in and out.
It's in the middle of the back seat. We have a biggish SUV (Honda Pilot) and I'm fairly short (5'4") and have no problems getting C into the middle of the back seat. Granted he's only maybe 22-23 pounds, so maybe as he gets bigger it will be more of a PITA.
We used to have it in the middle but it was so hard to get her in and out and since we didn't have latch it didnt feel as secure. Now she is behind the passenger seat.

When it was just one kid, the seat was behind the driver because it was easiest for me to get her in and out of car in that position. I spent too much time and money doing physical therapy for back and neck problems to be twisting halfway into the car multiple times a day to reach the middle seat.

I don't understand all this middle seat hate. I have a Chico next fit that is rf and is always so awkward to get Nods in when she's on the side. The middle was much easier, because I could sit and lift her. It was also nicer when it rained or was cold.
