Dowager queen Fabiola of Belgium died today. She was 86.
She was married to King Baudouin, who died unexpectedly in 1993. They didn't have any children so Baudouin was succeeded by his brother Albert II, who abdicated for his son Philippe in 2013.
The queen was born in Spain and was the goddaughter of Spain's Queen Victoria Eugenie. She was fluent in five languages, was a nurse and a published author, and was recognized for her charitable contributions to organizations relating to mental health, children's issues, and women's issues.
In much lighter and happier news, Sweden has released a new photo of Crown Princess Victoria's family:
Prince William will meet President Obama at the White House on Monday. He will also meet with Hillary and Chelsea Clinton during his NYC visit. Both William and Kate will visit the 9/11 Memorial and the Empire State Building. Kate, among other engagements, will meet with NYC First Lady Chirlane McCray.
Those are some seriously second rate Sesame Street costumes (I realize I'm an awful person for fixation on that since it was all for charity).
RIP Queen Fabiola.
And Princess Victoria's family is beautiful.
I thought the same thing. Big Bird looks like he's about to barf.
It seems like the company that hosted the event had a "fancy dress" (British for "costumes," I guess? Any Brits here?) for the day so people just showed up in random costumes.

Not British but yes in the UK fancy dress means costume (as in costume party/day) and yes the Sesame Street costumes are very bad.

Yup. I like that they do fancy dress for more than just Halloween. But if you're going to be meeting Prince Harry, you should probably step up your costuming game. I suppose we should just be thankful it wasn't a vicars and tarts party, heh.
