Does anyone have ikea dining chairs? v? I really need new ones. I want 8, black (wooden), and my taste is $$ (Room and Board is my preferred store/style). However, I have to either wait like 4 more years to buy R&B or I could get something cheaper now (ikea?).
I have little kids but I don't think that matters- solid wood chairs would withstand my kids just fine either way.
I'm on Craigslist a lot but I'm not seeing anything.
WWYD? Current chairs are fug & splitting, and we only have 4. We need more.
I don't go here, but I recently got ikea chairs and I love them. they are sturdy and my 3.5 and 1.5 yr olds can climb up w/o tipping the chairs (we had bent cane chairs before but they tipped too easily) they were also $50, so waaaaay more affordable.

I have Target chairs in my breakfast nook. They're holding up well, and I think they'd be okay with kids, too. The only thing that I would worry about is the horizontal bar between the front legs. Our chairs are a different style but with a similar bar. I try not to rest my feet on it in fear that I could break it if I put too much pressure on it.
I have black Ikea dining room chairs (I think they are discontinued or I'd link). The paint is wearing off in high traffic areas after 4yrs of at least 2x/day use. It's really nothing a sharpie won't fix.
With 2 active & fairly destructive boys, I'm saving my money for nice furniture until they are either out of the house or understand better about not being so rough on EVERYTHING.

Which chair did you purchase?
We have the ingolf (? Something like that) in black. I like that they are sturdy but not too heavy or huge. They were pretty middle of the road as far as size and weight. Not exactly like the million dollar ones you linked, but simple and comfy.
We have some from Ikea, but I don't think I see them on their site. We've had them for 6 years, and they've held up well. There are 2 of us, and 8 chairs, so they don't get a ton of use but for the price they've been great. I think they were super cheap, something like $20ish each.
As far as Target stuff goes, we've found some counter stools and bar stools from there that we really like. I'm not sure what the brand is, but both sets list a maximum weight that they're built to hold. Both sets are less than a year old, but they seem well made. If you go the Target route, I think I'd be looking for ones that list a max weight because at least you know that they're putting some thought into their product and taking the time to test them.

We have the Ikea Ingolf bar stools and I think they are decent. They will need tightened some time soon (we have had them 9 months on a rough floor), but seem to hold up well against two toddlers and an extremely tough floor. One does have a dent in it from where it was knocked over. We have been able to easily remove marker, food, etc off the white finish. Ikea's wood furniture seems to be pretty good.
You can then have them finish it the way you like or finish them yourselves. The great thing about it is that you end up with quality solid wood furniture. We bought our dining room set from Mill Stores and we are very, very happy with the quality. It ends up being a little more than the IKEA chairs, but still significantly less than the R&B chairs. They usually offer promotions from time to time too, so that may help with the cost as well.
