I think I've posted about this before, but if you haven't heard of Music and Memory, they are a fantastic charity. They collect mp3 players, fill them with music, and give them to Alzheimer's patients. There is so much fascinating research being done on the effects on music on the brain right now ( musicandmemory.org/music-brain-resources/current-research/ ). Their videos are amazing:
Anyway, if you have an old iPod lying around, please consider donating it. They also accept monetary donations.

That is amazing. Thanks for posting. My sisters was the Director of an Alzheimer unit and used art as therapy. One woman, who never spoke, started speaking one time and her family was amazed. She hasn't spoken a word in YEARS.
Oh, this is amazing. Dementia is on both sides of my family, so I am sort of resigned to this type of outcome, eventually. As well-documented as my lack of actual "feelings" is, there are certain songs that just overcome me (meaning, if I am singing along in my car or whatever, my voice cracks at certain lyrics, lol). So many songs take me back to specific places - "23 and so tired life" in Dancing Nancies, I'm in my car on the connector btwn 395 and Rte 6, driving home from college on a gray day, as a random example, and I have so many examples. I think when I'm trapped in my own brain, music could jolt me out of it for a minute. And thinking about my mom and if she ever deals w this as she ages, I hope playing her some Stevie Nicks will give her some fleeting relief.
