How do you ensure that you're using the oldest eggs first?
I don't want to bother with dating them or anything like that, but they're basically just sitting in a bowl on our counter right now. I found this thing on Amazon, which is cool, but it's a little pricey. I may break down and buy it unless I can come up with a better solution though.
Eggs last forever, especially these since we don't wash them until we're ready to use them. But our chickens are each laying an egg a day, which means we are averaging about 18 eggs a week. They started laying right before Thanksgiving, but I can already tell we're going to get overwhelmed with eggs soon. I don't want to have to test them every time I go to eat one. Plus, it's entirely possible I'll keep skipping over the oldest one with my current "system" or lack thereof.
I try to use the oldest first by keeping them in cartons and putting the cartons with the oldest eggs up front. Sometimes I forget and have to use the water test.
I just want a system of some sort so that I don't have to think about it. I may just grab a couple of cartons to keep them rotated, like others suggested.
And we'll start giving them to friends if we have too many, that's not a concern.

We had a maximum of two chickens at any given time, so never a lot of eggs. We had a convention of loading from the left side of the carton and pulling from the right.
