H and I are looking to take a longish weekend (3, maybe 4 nights) trip in March without the kids. I have NO IDEA where we should go. Budget is around the $1k mark (give or take) and I'd like something a little more low key since we'll be childless and can enjoy each other. Interests are wine tasting (or beer), eating food, live shows, experiencing new things, etc. Not really one for big cities, but I won't rule it out completely.
Any suggestions for a quick getaway that won't break the bank? We don't really want to go to Mexico or somewhere tropical, even though it'll be March and a warm-up would be nice.

I was JUST looking at Charleston, but between flight and lodging it would be pricy. I could probably extend our budget to $1500 and only do 3 nights, but I'm a cheap ass and would rather have it closer to $1k
Assuming you are in the United States, give me a clue to if you are East, West, North, or South. That will help us to give where to travel suggestions. Ooooh, I love planning trips.

Oh totally I feel ya. What about Charlotte or Savannah?

I'm in Michigan. We're not opposed to staying in the region; March weather isn't ideal here, but if we're someplace that doesn't require a lot of outside time to get from Point A to Point B (like Chicago, for example), we're good with that.
We really enjoy Traverse City, MI in the winter time and that's COLD. We're just looking to switch it up.

Maybe Branson, Missouri? I went there as a kid. It has a lot of shows, would be warmer than where you are and is probably not that expensive. It's also not a big city. It is very country music themed.

We love country music! Nashville is on my list too, but that's a potential GTG location for my anniversary board next year so I may rule it out.
I am back to suggesting the West Coast of Florida. You can fly into RSW (Fort Myers) or Tampa, on a short flight (hopefully direct) and BAM you are on vacation.
We like to stay in FT Myers Beach when we go, near Times Square. You can find many places to eat from bar food to fancy. Live music most nights. Beaches to walk on. Some places have heated pools, so the weather being chilly is a non issue. Beautiful sunsets.

flying can take up a big budget.. i was going to suggest Chicago since you can probably drive there. maybe the Fingerlakes in NY? they have wine country
I'm always partial to Niagara Falls, lol. Seriously though, there is wine tasting nearby both in NY and in Canada. Casinos in both NY and Canada. And, most importantly, me.
Hmm. Have you been to the UP? I went to college in Marquette and it is beautiful. Though I think that's a better trip for summer, but if you don't mind the cold and/or like winter sports, there is great skiing, snowshoeing, etc.
Other options - Chicago or Milwaukee? Milwaukee is a larger city but has a smaller town feel and lots to do. I haven't been, but I'd also love to go to Toronto which I think would be a reasonable drive for you. I went to Cincinnati for a football game a couple of years ago, and thought it was a nice small city too. Plenty of good food, cultural stuff going on, etc.
I honestly don't know where to suggest that flights and hotel would be 1k or under (unless you did very little that cost money while you were there). If that's your budget I'd really try to find something drivable.

So many great suggestions, thank you so much ladies!! I'll be doing a lot of research, but you've given me some great places to start with. I appreciate the help.

I am looking into trips end of February time...and someone recommended Destin FL. Doesn't seem too expensive, there's enough to do but its not a huge tourist spot. I've priced it out and hotels seems reasonable and so does airfare. I've never been there though...just one of our possibilities for this winter.
I would still consider Nashville (totally different with a H than with friends). I love that place. What about Chicago, St. Louis, or (depending on ticket prices) Seattle? I love Seattle and there's so much to do there including sampling great food (bonus if sea food is your thing) and beer.
Napa? Other cities in that area to look at: Santa Rosa, Healdsburg, Calistoga (GREAT spas!), Sonoma, Yountville, Petaluma. Flights may put this out of your price range though.
