It's probably okay.. It happened a lot when I worked in an office. Sometimes they wouldn't even have them follow up unless it happened more than once, which is maybe why they didn't call you? It is bad they didn't let you know though but I would freak out yet
I'm sure all is fine, but WTF to the system? Its great that there is more transparency for medical records and better access for patients, but when abnormal results pop up, maybe have a nurse call those people?

Sucks that they didn't call you.
As for the HPV/abnormal cells, I had that happen about two years ago. I was FREAKING OUT, because at 39 I have had a pap every year since 16 and never had an abnormal cell or positive HPV test. I scheduled the colpo and it wasn't as bad as I had expected. The nurse practitioner talked me through the whole thing. She took a few samples using this punch thing, which sounds like it would hurt, but it really didn't hurt any more than a pap. It was actually just like a long pap. The samples were sent to a lab for testing and the cells were determined to not be pre-cancerous. I had to go back 6 months later for a follow up pap which came back normal, but the HPV still showed positive. So then they had me go back for some test of cells inside the cervix just to make sure no abnormal or pre-cancerous cells were hiding in there. All of that came back normal. Then I had another pap when I was pregnant and all was fine again.
It was scary, but did turn out to be nothing in the end. And when I was freaking out, that's what everyone told me. I just didn't believe them

Switch online system to index card in the mail with my medical information showing to the world and I could have written your post 9 years ago. I'm so sorry the office did such a poor job of notification and follow up, but the results themselves aren't overly worrisome. The colonoscopy sucks for about 10 minutes and even having hpv/irregular cells isn't a huge worry. Went through the whole thing, still had two healthy babies and now totally normal paps.
Huge hugs because it's stressful and scary and they suck for you finding out like this.
I'm sorry. I cried in my office the first time they called me to say my results came back HPV+; it's really scary, and not being notified/the "what if I hadn't logged in?" only compounds that, I'm sure.
To throw out another anecdote, my first abnormal/HPV+ pap was in 2008. Colposcopy in 2009, regular pap that summer, regular pap in 2010, abnormal/HPV+ in 2011, LEEP early 2012, normal paps since.
Also, FWIW, cervical is one of the slowest growing cancers. Big hugs. It'll be OK.
You will be ok. I've known so many women who've had hpv and colonoscopies. Myself included. I honestly don't even remember details because it was that much of a non issue. I had to have more frequent paps for a year or two but they eventually came back normal and have since. Good luck!
I'm not sure if you're stress is added to by the fact that you have symptoms? (weird period). I just wanted to add that those are probably COMPLETELY unrelated. HPV/irregular cervix cells grow very slowly, which is why it's recommended you can go longer between PAPs. Not sure when you had your last one before this, but if they just found weird cells in August you're probably 100% fine as far as cancer goes.
I had an abnormal PAP what - 10 years ago? It was before I was even with my XH. I recall feeling some sort of way about being single, it was a rough year and I'd had several sex partners that didn't work out and I felt like it just fucking figured that this was my punishment for not being able to find ONE guy who wanted to have sex in a relationship, instead I had sex with assholes and somebody gave me HPV. Ugh. However, I can look back now and see how silly that thought process was and hope that if that's how you feel, you'll realize that as well (silly though understandable).
If you need to have a procedure, it's seriously no big deal. I've also not had an abnormal PAP since then. So. I understand why you're upset but I hope you can take a deep breath and know it will be ok, and you're totally able to handle this single (anyone could - it's that minor - but you I know are strong and will be fine).
I had irregular cells on my last PAP. It turned out to be HPV negative (they were able to re-test the same sample or something, so I didn't need to go back in). This was the same week I found a lump in my breast and also found out I was pregnant (first BFP after a m/c). So there was much freaking out. But all turned out well, and I'm sure it will turn out fine for you too.
Definitely call your doctor and ask WTF is up with them not notifying you of abnormal test results.

What an awful shock .
But as for the loneliness aspect? You seem like a genuinely kind, interesting person from my few months here. You won't end up alone. I hope things smooth out for you.

It's a huge WTF for me that they didn't call you, I'm so sorry! I do want to say that I had a result of "irregular" cells, did the colpo and everything was fine. That was 4 years ago, and I haven't had an irregular pap since- definitely get it checked out ASAP, but don't assume the worst, it very often turns out to be nothing.

this happened to me. Most of us have or are exposed to hpv in our life time. I unfortunately pretty much have an irregular pap every time and need a colcoscopy.
I also was notified 4 months after my last pap (after initially being told I was fine) that I needed to have a cold comb biopsy.
I've had a colpo and a LEEP all in this year. You know like it wasn't stressful enough with all my other shit going on. Results came back normal (thank god) the procedure was easy peasy. Don't freak out about that
Our office too has gone to online results rather than a letter. I would schedule an appointment, but not worry. I've basically have had it all short of having a hysterectomy. Colposcopy, freezing, leep, conization. I even had high grade abnormal cells, and it was 2 years until I had my conization from initial abnormal cells. I basically go back every 6 months to get a "repeat" Pap. I even get when my insurance approves it the HPV test which I feel is more telling for me because I've had multiple paps that I had to do the Colposcopy only to find out that it was negative.
