It's the shot that's generally given to some preemies and other babies to help prevent rsv. We might have just been approved for ds, but now I'm second guessing whether I really want/need for him to get a shot a month for the next several months.
And I'm not anti vaccine as he has gotten everything else so far, I'm just not sure whether this one is necessary. But I don't want to skip it if he should have it.
My twins had it all last winter. I actually really liked having it. Not because they were getting shots but because they didn't want us taking premies out in the winter so a home nurse came every month. She'd weight them and take their vitals, answer any questions I had. She'd even help feed them if she was there when both girls were hungry. The shots were NBD for my girls, I don't think they ever had a bad reaction to them. We were pretty much stuck inside all winter but neither girl was ever sick. I wouldn't want to risk rsv if you qualify for the shots. Rsv can send a baby to the hospital.
One of my LOs qualified for two winters and I was so relieved and grateful. We didn't see negative side effects. And we were at the doctor all the time anyway, so one shot per month didn't even phase me / barely registered with me.
There's a vaccine for RSV??? OMG, GET IT! DS had RSV at 8 months. It was very serious. It micro-scarred his lungs, so every little sickness settles into his lungs, resulting in bronchitis, or pneumonia. He has a nebulizer and a daily preventative inhaler, and he's not even 3. He'll likely have asthma too, but my pedi doesn't make an asthma diagnosis until age 5. If I can get an RSV vaccine for babygirl I will!
C had RSV at 3 months old and was hospitalized for 5 days. It was super scary because there's nothing they can do to cure it, you just have to wait it out and give oxygen and Tylenol. He lost weight, had to be suctioned out several times, etc. It was just bad.
He does still have breathing problems and is in a long term medical study regarding the link between RSV and asthma. So far, I'm pretty sure he's confirming his hypothesis.
Thanks everyone. I guess we will get it. I definitely do not want him to get rav - especially since he has come so far and is doing so well now.
I was just not sure since he is off his oxygen now and doing so well and doesn't have any problems at all. He doesn't go to daycare as mil watches him when I go to work 2 days a week so he doesn't have a ton of exposure. When I started doing some research on it just to make sure it was safe and I stumbled on what was apparently some anti vaxer site and so I just started to worry that maybe it would be bad in the long run - especially if he was low risk now. They really should put warnings on those darn sites.
Definitely get it. My preemie didn't make the cutoff based on his gestational age, season timing, etc. I wish we had it though. He had RSV once last year, and while it didn't require him to be hospitalized or anything, it was still rough on him.
Get it if you can. I think my triplets got two or three rounds of it. I can't remember exact. They were born at the end of sept at 33w. We had trouble getting the insurance to approve more and I was ok with that. They weren't in daycare and never got sick so it worked out fine.

I think you can only get it if you have preemies. It is super expensive. I wish it was offered to everyone. But i think right now it is thousands of dollars a shot and still kind of rare.
OP i would get it if approved.
Eta: DS got rsv at 3 months from his 10 yr old cousin. She just had a simple cough. He wasn't in daycare. Basically rsv in older kids and adults can just look like a cold
