I switched insurance companies this fall because I could save $700 a year. Awesome, right? Well, I got a notice from my insurance company that it would be inspected. I thought it was inspected BEFORE I transferred insurance companies so the inspection came as a surprise. I just got a letter from my insurance company telling me that 2 repairs need to be made before July 2015. One of the repairs is painting some of the exposed wood. I'm not really sure what that is though it might be the siding. (My old neighbor ruined my siding by watering it for hours. It was super shitty and he wouldn't stop.) I can paint easily and cheaply enough, and my new neighbor no longer waters my house. The second thing was that they want part of the roof replaced. I thought the entire roof was the same age but only one part needs to be replaced in their opinion. I've never had a roof replaced but I know it's expensive and probably more than the $700 that I'm saving so I'm pretty pissed. I never would have switched insurance companies if I had known that they would require repairs.
I know that I *should* do these things but I just don't have the money, especially for the roof. Handily enough, they offered to help me with financing through "Insurance Company Bank" and my "agent can help with determining those needs, including home quity loans and other products" so it seems a tiny bit shady that I need repairs.
Has anyone dealt with this? What happens if you say "too bad so sad, I'm broke"?
If you don't comply with their recommendations they'll most likely either cancel your policy or non-renew it. Either way, they have to give you some kind of notice that they're doing it, probably like 30 or 60 days.

My insurance with them expires in October. I need to dig through my emails but I swear they looked at my house before I switched in order to be sure that they could insure it. I'd obviously rather fix my house, but you know life doesn't always go how you want it to go.
