The track assembly can be a pita but you can always start simple and then once he's played with it for a few days then try a new track layout. We switch Ari's up a lot.

The doctor I work for recommended using wood glue to glue the track pieces on. He said this has really helped not have tracks everywhere. I'm considering this.

No, don't do that! Part of the awesomeness of train tables is the child's ability to manipulate and move the tracks once they are older. Creating new lines and plans is half the fun.

Get some fabric bins to hide under the table for the tracks. Plus when they get older the table is great for puzzles

I don't have that one but it took us 2 hours to put together ours. And no wood glue! Lincoln's favorite part is making his own track designs. I did double stick tape when he first got it because he got frustrated when the tracks would move. Less permanent.

Noooo!! Setting up the tracks in different configurations is the point, and the joy for kids later on. You will get MUCH more use over the years by leaving them loose.

DH just came in to get the wood glue and I told him I've decided to not use it. See, I always need good grounded advice on these things. Y'all never disappoint!

I'm inside with C while DH and FIL put the table together. I asked him to send me a photo and it seems to be going well. I replied, "good job Santa Claus". LOL!
Tip from a Christmas Eve disaster 4 years ago don't put it together in the garage if it won't fit through your door! My husband put it all together then said come help me carry it in. Not so much when we got to the door! Ended up trying a different door that was wider but had to trudge through a ton of snow to find we didn't fit through that door. He ended up having to take it apart and put it together inside that night! Need less to say the next week he took a nail gun and nailed it down.
