Hi everyone. I have been lurking on the boards for a long time. A few weeks back I decided to get off my extra extra wide butt and get back into shape. I started working out with a personal trainer and have lost a few pounds. He is now recommending that I take up running. I found a runner's shop that can properly fit my feet. My main question is how to start? I haven't tried to run since I was in the service over 10 years ago. Is C25K good or no? All recommendations are greatly appreciated.
1. Running is good for you. (I hate running.) 2. C25K is good. Lots of people here have done it. 3. Get fitted for running shoes at your local running store, not the mega-store like Dicks or Sports Authority. This will help prevent injuries. 4. Thank you for your military service!!!

No need to thank me sadlebred. I follow a long line of veterans in my family. I would proudly serve again. I learned the hard way to stay away from fittings from Modells and Dicks. The sneakers were totally wrong for my feet.

I was in the military too. I hated running after I got out. Despised it! Now I have somehow come to enjoy it. Probably because I can run at my own pace and not in a formation.

Welcome! I am a graduate of C25K this May! I liked the program a lot but found I had to incorporate walk breaks to get to the end distance. As long as you do 3 days a week you will get to the distance.
Thank you all for the kind words of encouragement. I have many "tastykakes" that I need to sweat off from the years of not caring. Running in formation does suck big time and now I can listen to my headphones which should help.

Welcome! Keep sharing and checking in here, it's a good way to stay motivated. I love tastykakes; butterscotch krimpets for life!
