I don't think it's "missing" - it fell off radar over the ocean. So, probably crashed, which is terrible and tragic. But I'd expect they locate it soon.
Posters above said "so many go missing in SE Asia" and "is this #3?" Had me wondering if I was forgetting something.
The one that went down in Ukraine was en route to SE Asia, so that kind of counts. I was the one who made the original comment and it may have been slightly exaggerated, but I live in that area so it is extra scary to me. Especially this one through Singapore. I've flown through Singapore 4 times since July. So I am at least mildly unsettled by the geography here.
I'm saying there are possible explanations, other than someone stockpiling planes, aka: a realistic explanation as to what the plane disappeared. So, not denial, not crazy theories...realistic possibilities.
Thank you captain obvious...where did I say my theory was an absolute?
And my theory isn't unrealistic. The most far-fetched? Perhaps. But not unrealistic.

My apologies, I forgot who I was dealing with.
Do me a favor and find a commercial pilot to discuss this with. Ruling this theory out would be pretty stupid, given the nuclear ways of the world we live in today and the number of enemies the U.S. has.
Would you have believed it if someone told you terrorists were going to simultaneously hijack 3 planes and crash them into the World Trade Center? On a date synonymous with our national emergency phone number?
Who is going to sell a terriorist organization a plane?
I don't really think terrorist organizations have very many problems obtaining things they need. Weapons or planes.
So why the need to hijack the ones they crashed into the WTC?
i don't disagree re:weapons, but that's a totally different topic.
Also, from BBC News:
An official with the transport ministry, Hadi Mustofa, told local media the plane lost contact over the Java Sea, between the islands of Kalimantan and Java.
He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact and that the weather had been cloudy.

Because the idea was to kill as many Americans as they could.
Flying your own plane with nobody on board doesn't accomplish that. Plus, a random plane flying into American air space with no call sign or info? How far do you think they would have gotten?
Not to mention, if someone is stockpiling planes, do you think they'd get away with it? With the number of surveillance satellites the US alone has, they wouldn't be a secret very long.

I don't disagree...but...turn off the transponder? The surveillance satellites that still haven't found the missing plane?
Again, I've said my theory is far-fetched, but I still think it's plausible enough for it to be considered as a possibility. Who the hell knows...but I'm not alone in thinking this as I shared above.
I still can't believe they haven't found any wreckage even from the first missing plane. Those poor families. I'm sure they just want some closure. Even that Air a France flight a few years ago, they found debris pretty quickly even though they didn't get the actual plane for years.

They hijacked the planes in the 9/11 terrorist attacks to maximize casualties. No one knew the towers were going to collapse, but by hijacking they made sure the planes were full of people and fuel. Had they flown another type of smaller plane from within US airspace or a larger plane from outside of the country, we wouldn't have seen nearly the amount of casualties.
Also, if you read other news stories, you will see there were actually thunderstorms in the area and the pilot asked to fly at 38,000 feet to avoid them.
Re: your other comment, frankly I don't think a pilot's opinion carries any more weight than anyone else's. They might be able to explain the mechanics of flying better, but their opinions on national security don't impress me.
The only place planes are being stockpiled is the bottom of the ocean.
Using a little common sense while reading the article-- which says bad weather was an issue and the pilot tried to reroute around it but was not okayed to do so --would maybe help with not jumping to conspiracy theories.
I feel so badly for these families. The waiting, knowing the outcome is most likely not a good one must be torture.
Well, of course. The possibility that aliens abducted the plane are there too, in some universe.
But I'm a fan of Occam's razor and logic and reason and the belief that the plane has crashed in a deep section of the ocean.
That is, of course, the most likely scenario. All I'm saying is that my theory shouldn't be disregarded. And I would bet one million dollars that our government looked into this possibility.
If I ever start blaming things on aliens, you have my ok to track me down and seek medical attention, lol.
It sounds like the Air Asia flight was over a busy shopping lane and shallow waters, so fingers crossed they locate it soon.

tue pilot I know is military and flown several missions in the Middle East. Many commercial pilots are military/ex-military. Of course, it doesn't mean they are "experts" in national security and terrorism, but I would hope they know more about it then the average bear given its their job to...protect our national security, and all that.

Lol. "Your" theory? Did you forward it to the government?
Hmmm. So you are saying the U.S. didn't get involved to investigate if there was a terrorist angle to the missing plane?
I have an intense fear of flying, and it DOES seem that there have been an abnormal amount of tragedies involving airplanes this year. But it could just be me projecting my fear. I just cannot even imagine the terror of those poor people, and the grief of their families. Ugh.
