Looks like a stereo-typical McMansion to me. I hate those developments--WTF happened to all the trees? And why would I want a house that large that is so close to my neighbors? Sorry, NMS at all.
LOL at this. It's on 1.5 acres. Where I live it's nearly impossible to find that kind of land. I can't even understand how having an acre of land puts you "on top of your neighbors". And trees? What are trees? Not everywhere in the country has tons of lush greenery. Guess that's why it's hard to ask people from all over the country what they think of certain homes since some people have no experience beyond what they are used to. Reminds me of when I lived in Hawaii and would see a 1000 square foot house on a postage stamped size lot for 700K that I'd love but my friends from the mainland would label as "horrid and overpriced." For the price and size (especially the yard) this house is quite nice, at least compared to what we have here.
Pom--I like the house a lot, but I think yours has better curb appeal. The lack of a fence would have been tough for me with kids and I would hate to put up a fence with such a gorgeous lake view (I think that's a lake at least).
The outdoor space bothers me. The carport, pool, and grill area is really spread out and quite a ways away from the house. The inside is too busy for my liking.
This is how I feel. It's weird to have a carport with a house IMO.
I think they went a little overboard with all the tray ceilings and the other various ceiling boxes. It does have the wasted space feel even in pics and I'm not a fan of the island. I do love the pool though!
It's not my style. I can't imagine 3097 sq. feet of living space. If I were going to buy a house, I would want more land and less house. But take this with a grain of salt. The only houses I've ever looked at possibly buying are in rural, upstate NY and I've never lived anywhere that was larger than about 1500 sq. feet (including where I grew up).

Beautiful house! Be careful with snakeaway- I believe they are toxic to dogs and if you have snakes in your yard already, the perimeter will keep them in, rather than out.
Some of the details are weird (like I'm not sure about the oddly shaped island in the kitchen or the setup of the bathroom) but overall I think it is gorgeous. I'm definitely more into newer construction style homes than it seems most of MM is, though.
I don't live in Texas but I think the pool is a turnoff for me, lol. I'm way too lazy for the upkeep.

It's got nice elements, but it kinda feels like they threw EVERYTHING they had in the design book into it. Tray ceilings in almost all the rooms are just bad IMO (especially whatever they did to the dining room). Plus what's with all the random wall angles? Is 90 degrees passe? I feel like it's trying too hard to class up crap from Walmart.

I know everyone else has already commented on this, but, what is up with the shape of that island?! Such a beautiful kitchen otherwise. The carport/no attached garage would also be a huge negative for me in an otherwise gorgeous home. Can't wait to see pics of the home you are really buying
way overdone with the tray ceilings! I hate the roofline too with all its angles. The outside looks like it has lots of potential, but overall I can see why you weren't excited about it. On the other hand if you were buying it, I would have bit my tongue and not commented because whatever works for you is all good and who cares what the internet says.
LMAO! I see everyone is impressed with what you get for the money... my first thought was that it seemed overpriced, but I'm used to cheap housing in Texas.
And I cannot even fathom hauling groceries from that carport to the house in 110deg temps.
It's a nice house, but it's just really NMS. If I were considering it, I'd definitely be planning on repainting several of the rooms (esp. where they did the ceilings) and probably changing some other cosmetic things.
That said, I totally agree with you about the wasted space which is the real deal breaker for me. Even from the photos, it looks like it has a lot of space where you don't want it. We saw several houses in our hunt that were similar: several in our neighborhood had 'bonus lofts' which I could never see myself using b/c they were either too small or weirdly located.
When can I move in. I love it! I only have 2 concerns. As a fellow Texan I would worry about snakes from the pond and for the 100+ degree days I will need some sort of attached garage.
It's ok. I really hate the odd shaped island. Love the pool.
How is this house just ok? It's beautiful and would cost $1-2M in my neighborhood.
seriously- that's what I thought when i read this... wTF??? It's beautiful and huge - and around me would be at LEAST a million. I can't believe that price - holy shit- it's less than I paid for my tiny 1300sf 85yo house.

Me. But I bought a house lots of people would never want and remodeled it. I love my 1963 rambler

Gailgoldie - Exactly. Looks like we live in the same 'hood too. A house for that price in my town is a short sale, 1300sf home that is falling apart.

In all fairness, just because it's a million dollar house in your neighborhood doesn't mean you have to love it. Right?
There are tons of great houses that are a million, but tons that are butt ass ugly. For me, this house isn't my style. So what if it's "cheap"?
