We are getting faux wood blinds installed in our living room and dining room. (I had posted a few weeks ago about an insane quote of $3000, but instead we are ordering from Home Depot for $600.)
We already have dark wood blinds on the second floor of our house and we want to get dark wood blinds in the living room so that everything matches on the outside. But I also kind of want white blinds in the dining room. You can't see the dining room from the outside, so it would look fine from the street. But inside the house you would be able to sit in either of the rooms and see the blinds in both the LR & DR.
Do you think it would look bad to have different color blinds? Or should we stick to dark wood? All the trim is white, if that matters.
If you really want white in the DR, I'd pick a different style of blind, so it isn't "same thing but white," and looks more intentionally different. If you had dark wood blinds elsewhere but white plantation shutters in the DR, I think that could be fine. Same blinds/different colors would probably look mismatched though.

Matchy matchy is not cool anymore. I have all white blinds in our new house because I am lazy, but when I go to my more decorator interested friends homes with new or hipster decorated homes, they have a variety of window treatments.
I would never think to match my INSIDE blinds so that they look the same outside. Blinds are the same to curtainss to me- they should match the room they are in.

My parents own a window coverings company and I worked with them for 2 years while in college- I found that it really does come down to personal preference- some people love to match the whole house, others live to do each room differently- both can look great. Are your living and dining room are one continuous space? If they are clearly defined as seperate spaces, I wouldn't bat an eye about one having dark and the other white.

This is sadly not my house, but the layout is similar. They are separate spaces, but still pretty open to one another.
In general I'm not too concerned about matching everything up, but DH can get a bit neurotic about it. We just did an addition and from the outside the two levels of our house look quite different, so we want to try to tie them together somehow.
We'll probably go with brown, since DH is grumbling about the white anyway. Between white trim, white kitchen cabs & counters, and marble in our new bathroom, he says I'm trying to turn the house into a hospital.

Thanks everyone for the input!
Honestly, with that layout, either choice would look great! They are clearly separate spaces so you are totally fine having different colors if you wish, and matching is always fine in my opinion. I do absolutely love dark blinds though, I tend to do too much white as well, so I like my window coverings to accent the room rather than blend in with the trim. Good luck!
