So my H and I decided to go shopping at some big box stores yesterday afternoon. We finally got a sofa for our sun room (remember when I asked for help? and needed to pick out some occasional tables and throw pillows to go with it.
So anyway, we live in the city and so we drive to the suburbs to the big box stores. Google says it is approximately 7 miles and it takes 10 minutes to get there. We always go this area when we need to shop, but it is in a different state. We go to Home Depot, then grab lunch at Chipotle, then to Home goods. H uses his credit card and no problems.
Then we go to Target. We decide to buy two cheapie tables there, the total is like $250. His card won't go through. I think its strange, but I use my card (its the same account, but its our Barclay card so we have different card numbers.) We walk out of the store, and I already have a voicemail from the credit card company about suspected fraud.
So I call them up, and they ask me to verify the charges from today. They said that "Going to target is outside of your normal spending habits" and I almost burst out laughing on the phone. Just call me Jan8. They also asked me "How long will you be traveling out of state?"
I guess, in conclusion, it is good that the fraud detection is good. I would rather get a phone call and approve charges than have a ton of stuff run up on my card if it was compromised. But the whole thing just made me think of MM and just dying at the idea that going to Target warranted a fraud alert.

To this day, that is still one of my favorite threads
IMO, Barclaycard has the most diligent fraud detection department of any card I've ever had. They immediately notified me when I ran my card through for a cab in NYC a few ekes ago, detecting that it was out of my area, but I find that hilarious since I have probably taken the exact same cab ride from JFK to my hotel at least 25 times this year.
My DD1 and SIL were visiting from Japan over the winter break. We all went to the mall to see Santa and do Christmas pics and stuff. He pulled out his Navy Federal card at Macy's and it was declined, so he pulled out his credit card. Went to Target, where the card he used at Macy's was declined, so he pulled out his Navy Federal (the one that was declined at Macy's) and it went through just fine. We could not stop laughing.
And the fraud alert call didn't come through until mid-morning the next day.
