So my aunt gave me a baby name book that she used when she was pregnant over 40 years ago. Funniest part is that there are names for each sex written on a blank page. For a girl, there was Hope Lee, Caitlin, Spring Lee (yes, this is what it says!) all crossed out and the winner, Tracy Maire. That wasn't a typo, it really reads "Maire". Haha. I'm fairly confident my cousin is Tracy Marie, but now I'm wondering! For a boy they had Shane Paul and Quinn Patrick. My cousin's name is Shawn and I *think* his middle name is Patrick but I'm not 100%. I wonder if "Shane" was supposed to be "Shawn"? I thought it was pretty funny
Anyways, the point of this post. I gave this book to H so he could give me a list of names. He decided to choose a name from each letter of the alphabet. Why? I have no idea, lol. It wasn't actually every letter because there were some letters he couldn't find one for, but his list is quite interesting:
August Clayton Derek Ethan Finley/Finn Garrett Hunter Ivan Julian Kenneth Marcus Oswald Parker Quincy Ridley Samuel Tristan Ulric Vincent Wesley Zachary (with a sad face next to it because I have a 2nd cousin with this name and one on the other side that's Isaac but goes by Zack)
I was really surprised at the list because I was NOT expecting him to like some of these names! Not to mention they're totally all over the place with style, lol. I mean, he has some nice classics, but also some really outdated names and trendy names!
But the good thing is that he looked at my (short) list again and liked: Nolan, Logan and Blake. He doesn't seem to really like my very favorite name, but at least these are names we can agree on! I think we might have it narrowed down to these 3 but who knows. We're both indecisive and will probably move names on and off the list, haha. Anyways, just wanted to share that list because I thought it was so interesting! Any on there anyone likes?
My top favorite is Everett H said he has a one syllable name, so he doesn't like a 3 syllable name, although to me it's more like 2 because the "2nd" syllable is so short/barely there. And uh, my full name is 3 syllables and I turned out just fine lol. He's weird.
Personally, I like names that are established names (as in, not made up or super trendy) and/or known, but not super popular. I have a very common name, so I would prefer something not top 10! I also like names that are less gender neutral, but also not overly masculine or feminine (so I tend to like softer boy names that do sometimes end up being used on girls and girl names that aren't super cutesy sounding, but NOT boy names!).
For middle names, I have a very short list. It includes 2 names that sort of honor both sides (Louis - my grandpa's name and similar to H's grandpa's name, Ludwig. Walter - similar to my great uncle Waldimir that went by Walt and one of H's other grandpa's middle names) and 1 I just really like (Jude). We haven't really decided yet if we want to honor someone or just pick something we like. Neither of us are named after anyone (unless you count my middle name technically being after a song) so we don't feel the "need" to honor someone, but I think it would be nice if we can!
August Derek (but I dated a Derek.. only for a couple weeks in HS, so it's not a total dealbreaker, but still) Ethan (but too popular) Garrett (I really like this name but I really dislike the potential nickname of Gary) Marcus Tristan Wesley Zachary (but obviously can't use)
H hated every boy name on my list. I threw out Weston on a whim after our NT scan when we found out he was a boy and he was like hmm I actually like that. I started calling the peanut by that name and it really stuck. We have not agreed on any other boy name since. Heaven forbid we have another boy because he'll be nameless lol. H keeps joking about having another boy and naming him Easton. No.
MrsAggie H actually mentioned Easton and I don't totally hate it because that's where my great aunt and uncle lived, so it has meaning. Just not totally my style. But yeah, that name with Weston definitely doesn't work! Haha
We always said if we had a boy we would name him Harrison. Dh had a grandpa Harry. I'm not crazy about the name Harry. Second choice is Maxwell. Dh's nephew's name is Max Short for Maximus. So that would be out (wilted) Dh and I hypothetically agreed on a girl's name in High school. It stuck when I got PG 4 years later. I'm just sad that it has become so popular recently.
We were leaning toward one name and when we saw the 3D ultrasound, we started leaning toward a different one. We've decided to wait until birth to pick one in case we change our minds again or stumble upon a third name we both love more in the meantime! (First name we liked was Jack, name we are leaning toward now is Ben, but neither one of us has a name we just love and really want to use.)
krystee I like Ben Jack is nice too but I really love Ben. I might put it on our middle name list.. it's the name of a friend that passed away 10 years ago this Valentine's Day (holy crap I can't believe it's been that long!). So I might be a little biased too, haha. Both are good though!
H and I could only agree on one name for a boy. It is trendy but we love it. We have an odd last name so we needed to find a name that worked w it and those are few and far between.
