Were you at the north or south location? I'll have to check there because we need blinds for upstairs. I keep forgetting about IKEA though, even with a store 2 miles away.
We are planning to go there next weekend and get a crib and dresser. We might splurge a bit and get a few more things if we find stuff, which we probably will, haha.
I love ikea! I drove by the Schaumburg store yesterday and lusted over it but didn't need anything so didn't go in.
@ We have the plastic kids cups and plates. They are SO cheap and the perfect size. Plus bpa-free. Their train tracks also fit with Brio train pieces. We got some for DS for Christmas. Lastly, (lol), they watch your kid in Smalland for you for an hour while you shop! We just learned that last time we were there and it was awesome. DS cried when we had to pick him up, lol.
jjwritergirl, yeah, I would have wanted to take J until he was at least 3. They have to be potty trained to go in. Plus there are some 5-6 year olds in there, too. Admission is based on a height range. But remember it in the future!
And Schaumburg would be north so you were at the southern one.
jjwritergirl They do have so many cute kid things! We were looking last time we went to get our office chair and they had a stuffed animal I wanted but didn't end up getting. I'm excited to go look though, I know their stuff is pretty good quality for the price!
I keep saying I'm going to go to Ikea one day but haven't made it yet. The closest one to me is a little over a hour away. There is also a Trader Joes in that area so it will be an all day event. Hmmm maybe a good BFF day.
I can see IKEA from my window at work. It calls to me daily.
I hope to go there next weekend for a side table, a cube storage unit and maybe a dresser. The only thing I don't love about that place is building the furniture!
jjwritergirl I just went a few days ago, I agree, I loved the baby stuff and got a few things!
estrellita Word of caution - check the stock of your store for the cribs you're interested in before you go.. They were out of stock of just about every one when I went, both in store and online. I can't get any that I wanted. I'm trying to figure out if they will have them again soon or not. I don't live close to IKEA (drove 4 hours to go) so it was a real disappointment!
sarahsas Good to know! We are also considering a couple from Walmart that are convertible so maybe we will just get a dresser and whatever other things we happen to pick up if they don't have what we want We only live about an hour or so from the closest one, and my parents live about 15 minutes away, so if they restock fast enough we could just see if they'd pick it up for us too. But we're running out of time!
estrellita which one(s) are you looking at (IKEA)? We wanted white and something in a more smooth finish. The Stuva and Gonatt were the ones we liked best in person. Maybe you'll have more luck if you don't want white.
sarahsas I was looking at the cheaper ones, so the Hensvik or Gulliver. I just checked the stock on those and the Sundvik and they don't have any of them at my store, although apparently one of them might be delivered right before we go. I was just looking at Walmart's website though and saw they have a deal with a convertible crib and mattress for about $160. They are Graco ones so I would think decent quality. We will probably go there too and see if they have any in the store to look at before we decide! I should check the stock for the dressers we were looking at... hmm.
estrellita They were out of the dresser we wanted too :/ The Hemnes 8 drawer in white. THey had the white stain and the black/brown. I may check out Walmart too if these cribs aren't in stock! I looked at the Hensvik but it seemed a bit wobbly and it was more of a stain over wood than smooth. I'm picky I know.. ha.
sarahsas I don't blame you for being picky! I definitely want to see a crib in person before making a decision but if that's not possible with the Walmart one, I suppose we could always return it and get a different one. I found a dresser I like at Ikea that's a little more than we wanted to spend (it's only $100, but we're cheap, haha) but the cheaper ones aren't big enough for a changing pad or they are terrible quality (Walmart ones). The website says it's "most likely" in stock, so that's good! Hopefully they don't sell out in a week!
