DH just knocked his wine glass off the end table and it shattered all over the living room rug. This thing was not cheap. I dumped a bottle of carpet cleaner on it right away and he's out getting a rug doctor. Tell me it's going to come clean. Please. I am going to be so fucking pissed if my rug is stained.

Try Oxiclean. I spilled a huge glass of red wine on a beige carpet and oxiclean cleaned it up completely. I applied it while the stain was still wet though. I'm not sure if that made a difference.
Yes, white wine takes red wine out, but so does white vinegar which is cheaper. The other fix I've found for organic based stains (including when my teen bled a ton on her white pants) is to soak it in a combo of white vinegar, oxyclean, and laundry detergent, although I'd bet it's just the oxy and vinegar doing the trick.
Just blot first, then pour some wine or vinegar on it and blot more.
I have oxiclean laundry stain remover, is that the same? Should I put that on there?
It's definitely still wet. I moved everything off the rug and am counting down the minutes to him getting back here.
Is it the powder stuff? If so I'd mix it with water according to the directions and pour it over the stain. Let it sit for a minute or so, then blot it up - don't scrub.
Ok, I think it's gone. He's going back over it one more time with fresh solution.
I was hopeful this may work. I used an oxy rug doctor product and added some oxiclean stain remover for good measure.
If any of you recall the insane dog fight that happened between our resident pup and the BFP guy we were planning to adopt, this method worked to get all the blood out of the carpets and off the couch. It was seriously like a crime scene, so I was hoping this would be even easier. Seems to have done the trick. Thanks everyone!
Random question, but I love your rug. Where did you get it from?
I ended up buying it on wayfair.com, but there were a few sites carrying it. The brand is Loloi and it's the Hamilton (fern green). It's so simple, but I couldn't find anything like it for less. I really love it and it's great quality. My dogs nails pull the threads when she plays on it, so I end up trimming the loose threads every so often, but I have zero complaints otherwise.

I'm glad it came out! My mom spilled a glass of wine on her rug and she somehow used salt? I know she dumped salt all over it, but I don't know what else she did. It came out completely. I realize I am no help. Ha!

I read about this last night, but I had already dumped a bottle of carpet cleaner all over it in my initial panic. Apparently, the salt soaks up the liquid and then you can just vacuum the salt away. Huffington post had an article about how effective it is. Seems like kind of a fun experiment to try on something I wouldn't be worried about staining.

Well, try it if it ever happens again, haha! It totally took it out of her rug. She has actually done it several times (she drinks...and spills...a lot of wine).

I've done it on clothes and furniture... works great! Although when dumping salt on the cute drunk guy who spilled red wine on himself, it DOES help to first tell him what you are doing or he may get a little freaked out by the equally drunk girl attacking him with a salt shaker!

Just seconding the salt; I spilled a glass on my beige carpet and dumped a whole carton of salt over it. The next morning (before the carpet cleaner arrived), it was completely removed. Amazing (though I saved the ammonia article for future reference).
