I had my 38 week appt on Dec. 23 and my doctor told me she didn't think anything would be happening soon, which I was fine with especially because she was leaving town for the holidays. Well, she was wrong, lol.
On Saturday, Dec. 27 I woke up to go to the bathroom about 6:30 and my water broke when I got out of bed. It took me completely by surprise since I was only 38w2d. I woke H up to tell him, and of course he had stayed up late watching a movie he had seen a billion times before, so he was already tired before our day began.
Anyway, we showered and ate breakfast and gathered our things to head to the hospital about 8:30. We actually knew the doctor on call, so it was no big deal that my doctor wasn't there.
They basically treated it like an induction because I wasn't having any contractions after my water breaking, so they started pitocin about 10. Things were pretty quiet until my contractions really kicked in about 3:00. I decided that was a good time to get the epidural, which was totally the right choice. It made everything so much better, lol.
I pushed for about 30-45 minutes and taco baby was born at 7:39 p.m. weighing 6 lbs 11 oz and 19 in long on December 27. He was down to 6 lbs 3 oz when we left the hospital and 5 lbs 15 oz at the doctor the next day. We've been feeding every 2 hours to try to get him back to birth weight and we go back to the doctor on Monday to check.
I couldn't have asked for a better labor experience and recovery hasn't been bad at all. I'm ready to get back to exercising and hoping my doctor gives me the all clear to run at my 6 week appt. Hopefully I'll have some more time to check in here when he's sleeping longer stretches. Sorry no pic, but I had to type it all on my iPad.
