I am anxiously awaiting my renewal rate letter. We have to give 30 days notice, so we would have to let them know by 9/1 and vacate by 9/30. I have asked the property manager about it and she says as soon as she hears something she will let me know. I love my apt and don't want to move, but increases have been up to 17%. The complex is in such high demand that they can do it and prob have the place under contract within a day.
I'm just wondering what the normal timeline should be. I usually have it a couple of months before; I've never had to continually ask for it. WDYT?

It doesn’t mention anything in your lease? Ours says they have to give us notice at least 45 days. We haven’t been here a year yet, so I don’t know if they actually honor that. Fortunately our township has rent control, so they can’t raise it too much next year, but we still want to get out of here anyway.

As a landlord I would give it to the tenant 30 days before their required notice - so, 2 months before the end of their lease.
I would start looking at other places now; those individual places may not still be available when you want to move in, but at least you'll get an idea for what the market rate is in certain areas and if there's a specific part of town you want to live in, so you can pounce on short notice if need be.
I think it really depends. For my tenant, his lease is up 8/31 so I always contact him in mid-june to discuss rental increases (if any) and stress that I want the new lease signed by July 1 for a lease state date of 9/1. But in the Boston area, most leases start on 9/1, so if he doesn't renew, I would have an impossible time trying to find a tenant if we weren't on the same timeline as everyone else.
For my current landlord, I am just month to month and have to give 30 days notice. He just raised my rent but gave me 30 days notice of the rental increase.
Does your state have laws that govern this? In CA, landlords must give 30 day notice - 60 days if the rent increase will be 10% or more. I have never gotten any notice before the required timelines.

I don't think I've ever received a renewal letter. Though in 8 years of renting in 4 locations, I've also never had my rent raised on me. Normally I call my landlord 40 days or so before the lease is to be up and ask if the rent is going up.
I don't remember from renting, but I would like to thank this post for telling me I need to send something around 9/1. We won't be raising rent, but I would like to encourage another lease. As it is, they will turn month to month at the expiration of this lease.
We renewed for aug 1. Got the info in late april and had to respond by late may. We live in a big complex and basically had to give 60 days notice if we were vacating.
