I might have a small amount of wall space in my new classroom to hang up some bib numbers, medals, Olympic trial memorabilia etc. all of that stuff is just sitting in a drawer anyway, it would show kids that I'm active blah, blah blah. Dumb idea or do it?
id say do it. it's encouraging and tells them a little about you.
mh wears his medals to school - like the monday after a race - either a finishers medal, or if he places. his students are really cute about it, they'll ask if he won, and if he says no, or that he was 2nd place in his AG or whatever, they'll be like "that's ok Mr., just keep trying and maybe next time you'll win."
I say do it. I always have a board that's an "About Mrs. H" board for the first month or two of school with all kinds of pictures and facts about me. The kids really love that. I'm sure they'd enjoy seeing the things that you're into and what you've achieved. Plus, it's a good way to model a healthy and active lifestyle.
If you always put limits on everything you do, physical or anything else, it will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. - Bruce Lee
I have seen people do a 'brag board'...you post your bibs and medals, pictures of things you are proud of, and then invite the kids to add their stuff to it, as a way of valuing all the things they do outside of school that is awesome, just like you do awesome things outside of the classroom. They don't need to bring in medals, it can be pictures of them doing stuff, articles from the newspaper (we have lots of kids who play hockey and it makes it to the paper), etc...
