In your experience, do they actually honor the written exclusions or do they let you use the coupons for anything like Bed Bath and Beyond often does?
This coming from my hope that I didn't pass on the only 6 month old teal citi mini GT double stroller that I have my eye on because I didn't want to store it until June for no reason....
They would not let my friend use the coupon for an excluded item a few weeks ago. But then my friend's husband threw a kind of embarrassing fit and they gave him the discount to shut him up.
That's the only time I've seen in person one way or another.

No they have always excluded certain items. I have my eye on the same stroller but not sure of color yet. I am probably going to open a registry to get the completion coupon because those can be used on anything.

The only time I had an exception was when my stoke Tripp trap was on clearance because it was a return/open box. She scanned the clearance barcode and the coupon.
They've never honored the coupon for me. However, if you have a registry there they did have an event after my due date where I could get anything for 20% off without exclusions.

I work in retail buying.
Vendors can and do negotiate exclusions from store-wide coupons, and some vendors will not allow their products to be advertised below their set minimum price. They want to protect their image as full-price brands. You may see an in-store markdown, but you will not see it in advertising. This is why you sometimes see "price in cart" wording on-line.
If the terms are violated, the vendors can halt future shipments, sometimes as long as 6 months.

I was able to use my registry completion coupon to buy the city mini gt. There were no exclusions on it. The guy ringing up my purchase even called a manager to verify because he thought it was wrong.
It may depend on who you get at the register because we bought our city mini there in 2011 and they gave us the 20 percent even though it was supposed to be excluded.
I also was able to price match amazon or someplace else on my Medela In Style pump last year and still get the 20 percent off. I ended up paying under $180 for it.
ETA: My neighbor told me about the pump deal. What she said was that the computer automatically deducts the coupon from the highest price item that isn't excluded when you ring up. So I bough a bunch of other lower priced items as well and I got both the match and the discount.

My Buy Buy Baby is strict on not letting you use a coupon on the excluded brands. I haven't done this myself, but have a few friends that don't live near a Buy Buy Baby go into a Bed Bath and Beyond, order the item off of their website, use a coupon, and get free shipping! It's worth a try. Buy Buy Baby will let you use a registry completion coupon on the typically excluded brands, which if I remember correctly is 10%.
I have to order through our local Bed Bath and Beyond because the closest buybuybaby is 4 hours from us. They never check the exclusions. And they take all my expired coupons, so does the buybuybaby when I actually make it to the store.
I have had this experience at Bed Bath and Beyond, but haven't tried at BBB. The guy at Bed Bath and Beyond asked if I wanted to use a coupon on Kate Spade and I said I thought it was excluded. He said that if they excluded everything, there wouldn't be much to use the coupon on. He took the coupon with no problem. But Buy Buy Baby is stricter on coupons (don't take expired ones, etc.).
Good to know about trying to order things through Bed Bath Beyond instead.
You may have to find the most clueless cashier. I had one the other day that had no clue how to process formula coupons on top of formula checks. When I handed her 20% coupons for my Aquaphor, she hit a button and applied them on the formula instead which is always excluded. So it's all in the cluelessness. But I'm guessing they're probably trained to look at the big ticket stuff before applying coupons.
