I bought my first car as soon as I got my license because I really hated taking the bus to get to my internship. It took me 1.5 hours, on three different buses, to make a trip that was just 25 minutes by car.
My first car was Rosie, a 1994 Oldsmobile wagon. It broke down constantly and left me stranded a few times, but I did enjoy having people yell "Nice car!" at stoplights.
When my brother got his license my dad gave him a truck. It was huge and awful but a vehicle so it worked. My dad had planned on giving me a vehicle, but he flipped and totaled his truck not long before that and was in jail (unrelated reasons)... so... my mom and grandma went in together and got me a 2 door grand am. They wanted to be 'fair' and since my brother didn't have to buy a vehicle they didn't want to make me buy one. I loved my car, it was old but it ran well. I was sad when it broke down and I ended up getting something else.

I thought my parents would get me car for my 17th birthday but they didn't...I didn't say anything but inwardly I was so upset (OMG I was such a brat). That's because they gave it to me a few weeks later. It was an '87 Camaro and I loved it. Unfortunately not too long after I got it I went off the road in the rain and crashed so my parents made me drive their Ford Taurus and they took my car. I eventually got it back at some point but then when I wanted to bring a car to college junior year my parents said no to the Camaro and made me take the Taurus so that became "my car" for a few years until I got my current car.
My parents gave me an older used car as soon as I got my license- they were sick of driving me around so that made sure they didn't have to anymore! It was a 93 Ford Thunderbird. With two doors. I was the only one of my friends with my own car, so we used to squeeze a lot of people back there, lol

My parents could not afford to give me a car, and where we lived, that wasn't the norm anyway. I bought my first car in my send year of college. My plan for my kids is to match whatever they have saved, so they can buy themselves a car if they wish. Where I am now, that is not the norm. It seems like every kid here gets a car on her 16th birthday. A guy at work gave his 16 year old a Mercedes. I was like, "are you kidding me?!?!" He said it was three years old and his wife got the new one, so it wasn't spoiling. Two months later, totaled three year old Mercedes. So far, at age 17 and 2 months, she has totaled two cars, and had two cars replaced by daddy.
When I got my license my step sister was in a horrible accident that left her paralyzed. I bought her car off of her for $2,000. It was a 98? Dodge Neon
I was VERY VERY fortunate. My Dad got me a used Nissan Altima as my first car. He brought it to school and had balloons in it. He was standing there with it when classes let out. He's the best Daddy on the face of the planet. I will always remember that.
Not right away. I shared my parents' cars at first, and they gave me a car for my 17th birthday. A 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis. They bought it off my great grandparents. It smelled like mothballs. I wanted to cry. I mean yes, I was grateful to have a car that I didn't have to pay for. But I hated that one. Hated. Yes, I'm a brat.
My parents kind of bought me a car. They bought a family car for my brother and I to share even though he didn't drive yet. I bought my own car at maybe 21 for $600!

I drove my mom's van for the first few months (which was actually convenient for hauling my younger friends around). My parents bought a car (an 03 Mazda Millenia) that summer so I could drive to/from school and work. They always said I would have to buy my next car but when that one died, they bought another (my current car, 05 Hyundai Sonata). First car I've ever bought is the SUV H drives!

I remember saving for my first car since I was 12 years old. I paid $1300 for my first car. Then cried when I found out it needed a little work done (wheel alignment and such), lol. So my parents paid for that. I think I must have got it before I was 16 (in my mom's name) because I used it to take my drivers' test in.
