We CD'd DD for about a year before dropping out when she started leaking through 4.0s and Freetimes and I didn't want to experiment with other inserts. She will not be PT'd before #2 comes along. Assuming we don't move to a bigger place, we'll use the same changing station for both. Would you attempt to CD one and use disposables with the other? Or sell the CD stash for money to buy things for #2 and use disposables all around?
Fwiw, I was gifted (new) many of the CDs we do have so I don't have a lot of money invested. I like not having diaper laundry and the stink is manageable, but I know how much money we could save if we used them for even a year.
The CDs are not going to raise enough money to be part of the equation.
We do cloth for DD and disposable pullups for DS at night. I don't find cloth to be a big burden, so I've just kept doing it.
For the record, the best inserts are prefold diapers, if you ever do want to try something better. Microfibre (which BGs come with) are the worst.
Huh, we used prefolds/covers early on but never stuffed with them. I figured I'd get $200 ish from our stash, but I know that's only a few months in diapers, lol.
DD was day trained when DS came along but not nap or bedtime. I used disposables on her and CDs on DS.
It wasn't an issue.
I'm not so staunch on it one way or the other though. I'll put a disposable on DS if we're going somewhere I don't want to deal with CDs or just plain don't feel like it. I've still saved a fortune.
And don't bank on getting a ton of $$ either. I have a decent, fairly well kept stash and from what I see here I probably won't get more than $50.00 for it all.
microfibre inserts (what come with BGs) are pointless. Natural fibers - cotton prefolds, hemp liners, etc. are infinitely better. Moms on budgeting cloth diaper groups I lurk on recommend cotton flour sack cloth from the dish towel section at Walmart. In Canada they are 5 for $5 and basically a giant square of cotton that you can fold to fit your diaper. I haven't tried then yet, but plan to pick up a pack and see how they work for me.
Also, idk what your local resale market is like, but I just sold a lot of 12 4.0s that I bought used for $125 and then a lot of 6 4.0s that I bought new (all less than 7 months old) for $90. So $10-15 a diaper. (They are $21-22 new in Canada so adjust accordingly for US prices). I was really happy with my resale, especially since I made $5 on the used lot (i paid $120 and fixed a couple elastics).
