Ok, I haven't watched the Olympics this year so I could be talking out my ass here, but aren't the athletes all given matching uniforms? The gymnasts all wear xx, the swimmers all wear yy, etc. So, they really don't have a choice in the matter.
Or do they get to pick and choose what they wear for the Olympics now?
None of them were in red/white/blue...they were matching the colors of the gym, I believe (it had a pinkish border around the floor area and I think pink where that stupid Lisa Simpson blowjob logo is). I wonder if they also wondered why the uniforms were gray!?!
They specifically mentioned Gabby's competition leotard being hot pink, showed pictures of Mary Lou Retton in stars and stripes.
Lack of USA USA chants. (my memory, though, is that's for team stuff... individual stuff, not so much)
WTF? They've been watching too much Rocky IV lately. Also, someone should tell them London isn't in the USA, so if there *are* USA chants (however faint), then that's gravy.
Well, the Italian beach volleyball players were wearing light blue yesterday.
And the US women's gymnastics team DID wear red leotards during team competition. During qualifiers they were purple, and during all-arounds they were pink (both Gabby and Aly wore the same one). McKayla Maroney wore a white one for individual vault. So I guess women's gymnastics is 50/50.
Honestly, the red/white/blue leotards like the kind that Mary Lou and the Magnificent 7 wore seem a little hokey now.
Again, it doesn't matter to me. But there was a similar discussion here just a week ago (anybody remember the thread?), and none of the pearl-clutching.
To be honest, I'm not a fan of the pink. But beyond being a stupid argument, it's false. Gabby didn't decide to wear pink. And the 2008 team wore pink as well. Actually a more bubble-gum pink. I think they even wore it during team competition.
I love the medal podium sweats, I want that jacket but it's like $500.
Side note: did anyone catch Kerry Strug talking about Bela carrying her to the medal podium? "I'm thinking, I'm the only one w/o pants!"

Yes. I was psyched to see the interviews with the team members. They all look so awesome and I can't believe that this years competitors either were NOT born or too young to remember Atlanta in '96. :-(
Oh and when the Canadian gymnast didn't do her second vault last night, I thought, "that's because Bela's not her coach." Awful, but true.
