Hi guys, I have two questions.
1) I'm going oot this week and a family member is looking after dd. I have pumped what I can this last month but only have enough for 2 feeds a day (10oz). She will be on formula the other feeds. Once a formula bottle is made up, how long is it good for? I thought it was 2 hours but then I remember people make them for daycare so it might be longer?
Also, defrosted bm is good for 24 hours, right?
2) I went to the dentist last night and he freaked me out about dd's 2 teeth! He said I need to clean them everyday (fine) but he also said no milk before bed or motn. wtf? She normally nurses to sleep still and I'm definitely not cleaning her teeth in the middle of the night. What do you do?

Nursing doesn't count for dentist freak outs. They have zero idea what they're talking about - a boob is not a bottle, and breastmilk is not formula.
Ditto PPs -- formula is good for 24 hours in the fridge. It can sit outside the fridge for an hour.
My random question: re: formula checks. They came fast and furious in the mail the first few months after DD was born. We haven't gotten any in probably 4 months. This is how they hook you, right? $5 a week is not going to make or break our budget, but I'm curious if they'll re-start. Side note: I still can't believe DD is closer to a year than she is to being just born. Sniff sniff.

Formula checks are a marketing strategy to keep you brand loyal. If your kid is close to 1, they don't care about you any more because you're not going to be a customer much longer. By 8 months, they assumed you were already brand loyal and stopped trying to keep you that way.
If my baby is awake in the middle of the night fussing (but not crying) for up to one hour what should I do? Nothing? Last night DD fussed on and off from 1230-130 but never escalated to a cry. I laid in bed awake anticipating her to cry but she fell asleep at the one hour mark. If I got up and fed her, I know we both would have been back to sleep in a half hour, but I don't want to get back into the habit of her expecting to nurse every time she wakes up.

I guess it depends on where you stand on sleep training. I turn on the white noise app on my phone with a timer of 30 min. and goes back to sleep. I'll hear him over the noise if he's actually crying.

I got a second wave of cheques and samples for the older baby formula but haven't had anything for a few months.

I have heard it also helps if the cashier correctly rings it as a check, not as a coupon. Then they know you used it.
I abandoned brands in favor of Up&Up generic, but I would still get checks as I hit milestones - so more checks at 6 months, 9 months and one year. They will really try to sell you on toddler formula as you hit 12 months.

Re: Toddler formula. Does anyone use it?
My bff in the UK uses it exclusively because she says wcm is full of hormones etc. She is the only person I know who uses it though. A lot of people here seem to use almond milk.
What would be the advantages to the toddler formula over wcm/almond milk etc. Certainly not $ I guess?

DH's cousin uses toddler formula with her 2-year-old not because she thinks WCM is the devil, but he's a really picky eater (lost weight recently) and she gives it to him for the extra vitamins and minerals. I have no idea if it offers as many calories as WCM does though to help with his weight.
Hmm, maybe I should have DH take DD to the dentist…we have her down to 1oz a night most nights (no joke, 1oz, she still wakes up MOTN and I just give her an oz, max 2, it's the only thing that will calm her)…sigh.
Lately if we put L down to play on his mat after eating, when he rolls over on his stomach, he will spit up if he is on his stomach for too long? I usually try to roll him back over when I notice it. Is this anything to be concerned about? We have his 6 mth appt on 28th - can it wait until then to ask the doc about?

Otherwise he really doesn't spit up a lot.
DD is the spit up queen, and has been since birth. She always spits up more when she's on her stomach. I don't think it's anything to worry about, at least from what our pedi has said. I have brought up her excessive spit up several times, but from what I've been told as long as they are gaining weight and eating well, and it doesn't seem to bother them it's "happy spitting" and nothing to worry about. I don't think it will hurt to mention to the dr for peace of mind though!
At what point do you know (if there is a point) when excessive drooling is teething related vs. just infant excessive drooling? I know that around 3 months they start drooling a lot because their bodies are producing more saliva. When does that stop? DD has been drooling a ton lately and I think I can see the start of a bottom middle tooth but I'm not sure.
When did/do you start letting them sit in a high chair at a restaurant?
DD had to have her flat spot evaluated yesterday. Everything checked out just fine, they found no issues other than the hematoma she was born with that we already knew about. But the nurse practitioner that we met with before we met with the doctor said that DD has to be upright or on her stomach at all times other than sleeping now. Has anyone else been told this? We are trying ,but she loves to play on her back and roll around with her toys, and I hate to take that away from her. She also said no swing. I'm having trouble trying to figure out if this is just for precaution or if they saw something in DD's head but didn't tell us. THe dr. said he saw no reason for follow up appointments, x-rays, helmet, or any other interventions. And didn't need us to come back in like 6 months or anything to re-evaluate. Am I ruining my child by letting her have some time on her back still?
