My DD got her first set of vaccines first thing in the morning yesterday. She proceeded to sleep almost all day, waking up only to fuss and barely ate anything. Then she ate a ton overnight.
She's totally fine, of course. Even when you're healthy, it's a lot of work to make all those antibodies, and I know that's why she was sore and tired, and it's nothing to be concerned about.
But it kinda sucked for me. Anyone else experience this? And is it less bad if you get the vaccines in the afternoon/evening? (I'm thinking about calling and rescheduling her 4 month visit for as late in the day as possible...)
Honestly I liked vaccine days when my kids were little. They took the best naps.
I always scheduled vaccines in the mornings in case they had a bad reaction. As totally unlikely as that is, I figured there is no harm in being able to keep an eye on them all day. Plus, on the chance that the vaccines made them super cranky and disturbed their sleep, I didn't want that to be happening at night.
My DS was similar - the 2 month shots are the worst. He fussed for 30 seconds after his 4 month and 6 month shots and then was fine the rest of the day.
We did morning for the 2 month shots and he cried pretty hard for awhile then slept all day. He did get a fever and was super fussy for a few days. I hated it. I'm doing morning for 4 month shots too, I prefer it esp if there's going to be a reaction.

We also scheduled shots in the morning or midday as he gets in a really long nap afterwards! It was nice As he got older (he is 19 months now), it has less of that tiredness effect. He bounces back so quickly now like as if nothing happened.

I do too. I just have more (cheaper) treatment options during the day if anything were to happen (I've had severe allergic reactions to unknown foods/environmental shit before so I'm a little extra cautious than most, probably).
yeah it's worth adding that I have a lifelong severe food allergy so I am definitely more cautious about this type of thing than many people.
My DD doesn't get sleepy after her shots, but suuuuper cranky instead, yay!! Her 6 month ones are next week. I'm hoping they go better this time. She did get her flu shot last week with no side effects.
My son's two month shots were awful. He was fine for the first few hours, but then he was so irritable, hungry and slept terribly. He also had diahrrea. It was pretty awful for two days. By the third day he was his lovely self again. I'm not looking forward to the four month shots.
Our pedi only gives vaccines before lunch and M-Th. They want people to have a decent amount of awake time to recognize a reaction and don't do Fridays in case a reaction happens over the weekend. I think that's pretty smart. As far as temperament, DD was a mess after her 2 mo shots but slept a lot and her 4 mo shots - a week and a half ago so fresh in my mind - were a non-event comparatively.
