I've thrown up 10 times in the past 6 hours. I've been trying to sip liquids but they keep coming back up. At what point do I need to think about going to the ER for dehydration? I don't know how dehydrated I really am yet, but I'm getting paranoid due to lack of sleep. Going to the ER would involve either driving myself, which I don't feel great about or waking DH and DD, which would be awful.
ETA the cause seems to be a stomach bug DD had earlier this week, but it might be exacerbated by dehydration and pregnancy nausea.
Update: I got an hour of sleep and haven't thrown up in 2 hours, so I'm trying a little more liquid. Fingers crossed that the worst is over.
What time is it there? It's almost 3 am here. In your situation, I'd probably call my doctor's line at 5 am so that if they told me to go to the hopsital, it would be "morning" already. I got sent to the hospital twice for IV fluids during my pregnancy though it wasn't deydration from vomitting. My OB was able to let L&D know I was coming so I was able to skip the ER. Also I'd drive myself. I never knew what time I'd be allowed to leave when I used to go to the hospital. Having my 15 month old there sounds very stressful to me. She's better off at home with my husband.
It's 2am. I managed to finally find some guidelines on the internet that say to call after 12 hours, so I think I'm going to take that as permission to at least wait until morning - like you say it would be much easier. ETA thanks for the late night response.
I had a 24 hour GI bug early in my pregnancy in Nov. and after 8 hours of vomiting and diarrhea and not keeping even water down, the in call OB told me that if I wasn't keeping anything down at the 12 hour mark to head to the ER for fluids.
Don't freak about fluids. Drinking water can make you puke more if you do it to soon. I'd wait I guess 4 or 5+ hours or until you feel hungry again. You can do like, ice chips or mini sips of water but just to wet your whistle, no real drinking.
I hope you are already feeling better! If you do end up going to the hospital, I would just order an Uber. It seems well worth the cost to avoid bringing your family along.
I hope you're feeling better! If you still aren't able to keep anything down (ice chips, sips of sprite or gatorade), I would probably call and go in for fluids.
If you need to go in, can you call a friend for a ride? Or a taxi/uber? Please don't drive yourself. (I wouldn't mind giving a friend a ride to the ER. I'd feel terrible if I knew you were sick and drove yourself there!)
Just back from getting fluids at the ER. Threw up once more after my last update. Ended up with extremely painful gas pains, so spent a while there recovering from that. Got a prescription for zofran, hopefully that will help recovery from all this nausea.
