Ok, so I asked for something similar for Xmas and ended up with 3 North Face coats!
The North Face Transit and the North Face Lorelai both are down, have hoods, and come to mid-thigh. The Lorelai might still be on sale at Nordstrom ($150, I think). The Transit is longer, but I find myself reaching for the Lorelai more often - it feels warmer?
I also got the North Face Miss Metro, which I LOVE. It is also down, with a hood, and is a little longer than mid-thigh. It might be too puffy for you, but damn that bad boy feels like wearing a comforter, and the shape is a little more fitted. It is my fave of all of my Xmas coats
The "ultralight" ones are really light - more like sweaters than coats - but compact down to essentially nothing. FYI, they do run a tad small so if you're between sizes I'd order up.
P.S. I don't work for Montbell, just love their gear.

I asked for something similar and DH got me this one from Mountain Hardwear. It hits about midthigh and kept me warm on the -20 or whatever windchill days we had this winter. It feels like almost nothing and packs down super small. www.backcountry.com/mountain-hardwear-ghost-whisperer-down-parka-womens
Although now seeing the price, unless DH found a good deal, he seriously broke our xmas spending limit on each other. I guess there's worse things I can complain about.

I really like this one, thank you! What color do you have? I'm reading reviews about the black one and a lot of people have said that it's too shiny, like a trash bag.
I have the black one. It is a little bit shinier that I would have prefered but it doesn't bother me at all. The picture of it is pretty accurate. I like it a lot more than the gray.

I got the North Face Lorelai for Christmas, but sent it back. It wasn't warmer than my Patagonia R4 jacket, and though it it is lighter, the difference was not enough to make up for the puffer effect. My DH said it looked nice on me, and I should keep it, but I felt a little shamooish, compared to my R4. I have been eyeballing the LL bean version, but they are sold out in black. It has water proofing and wind stop, which should make it warmer. It also has higher quality down.
I had another one from the that lasted like 5 years. I bought this one just because I wanted a different color. They are great coats and totally worth the price.

I have a down coat from Kohls clearance. It's so warm and comfy but I get feathers all over my shirts. And I'm constantly finding small feathers all over (car, home, office). Is this the case with all down coats or did I get a shitty one?

I just got this the other day and it's surprisingly warm. Not sure if it's as warm as down-filled or puffer, but between the quilting and the fleecy lining I find it perfect as an outer layer.

I have the North Face Jenae, which is a Nordstrom exclusive, and I think it is very warm. (I live in MN.) I got it last year in a winter white that they don't seem to have this year. It is machine washable, so it hasn't been trouble to keep clean.
