This has been driving me nuts. Every winter I get really flaky skin around my nose. I've tried every (fragrance free) facial cream on the market, been to the dermatologist & got steroids, wash face/not wash face, exfoliate/not exfoliate, hand creams, Aquaphor, Eucerin, etc.. Does anyone else get it? How do you deal with it?
I was going to suggest Aquaphor but you've already tried. A friend at work swears by emu oil for her dry winter skin but I don't know anything about it. Have you tried Vaseline? It sounds crazy but my eye area gets so dry in winter and I use Vaseline at night after my regular moisturizer and it helps.
My DD has a similar place just under her bottom lip every winter - I swear, nothing I do works! It will look like it's clearing up and then be back full force the next day.
I use jojoba oil (W/a little tea tree) as my moisturizer, and I think I'm going to try some straight jojoba on hers tonight. I'll report back if I happen to find a solution.

I get extremely dry skin and this is an area that gets drier than most, which includes a little flaking there.
I swear by marula oil...it's helped my skin SO much! It's similar to Argan Oil. I like Acure which I think they actually just started selling at target.
For REALLY dry face skin, I love Boots Organic Face Balm. It's almost like a chapstick for your face in a little pot. I bought it about 2 years ago (at target!) so I don't know if they still sell it...
I have very dry skin that seems to be getting worse as I get older (dryness). For rough patches I use Tarte Maracuja oil and then put moisturizer on top of that and it seems to go away in a few days. Right now I'm using a Murad moisturizer.
I have seen a significant improvement in my skin since using higher end products. I'm not sure if it was that I couldn't find a drug store brand that worked (and needed to keep looking) or if my skin just needed DIFFERENT ingredients from drug store products. I hate shelling out so much for skin care, but it's worth it to me right now.
I had a dry flaky patch next to my nostril for the longest time. I finally went to the dermatologist and she diagnosed me with Rosacea. My mom has it too so I am not surprised. She started me on a cream to use morning and night and I switched to Neutrogena face wash and after about a month it is finally clear

It doesn't itch; it's just annoying.
I get this too in the winter - the only thing that gets rid if it for me is using hydrocortisone cream - weird, I know, but it works for me.
