I have a running Amazon wish list of children's books to add to DD's library, but most of the books are ones I loved as a kid. I found this list really helpful for picking out some great new books!
I have heard of literally ONE of those titles, and that's just bc it was on display prominenly when I went to bn last week!
Don't forget poetry for rhyme/rhythm/language skills. Just one highly rated book of Nursery Rhymes will do at first. I plan to get Shel Silverstein for DS soon. (Prob should have already, I don't pretend to be on top of my grand plans )
DS loves Fox In the Dark, by Alison Green. It has a great rhythm to it, and the illustrations are fantastic. I actually just bought a copy for a friend on mine because DS and I love it so much.
We got Good Night, Good Night Construction Site and it is DS1's favorite. It also ALWAYS makes him tired when we read it at bedtime, so it's a win/win.

I love lists of good unexpected children's books! We have a shelf of gifted books and they're all great (lots of childhood memories) it's great to see a list that doesn't have any of those books included.
DS (17 months) is still young for actual stories and in the "not too many words, books must do something" stage. He absolutely LOVES "Have you ever tickled a tiger?". It meets the qualifications - short board book with fun pictures and things to touch.

I have only heard of a few of those but we don't own any of them.
M is 3, current favorites that we own: Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site Down by the Station by Will Hillenbrand How Do Dinosaurs Get Well Soon Steam Train, Dream Train Bear Wants More (& others from this series)
I don't know how new is new enough but some I like are:
It's a Little Book Press Here The Bear series by Karma Wilson Diary of a Wombat Just about anything by Mo Willems The Day the Crayons Quit Z is for Moose Tuck Me In Cat Secrets One
My daughter is just shy of 8 months old, but I'm a sucker for kid's books of all ages! I already put my box set of Laura Ingalls Wilder on her bookshelf.
So far she still sits through our longer picture books (Robert McCloskey is my fav). Her favorite activity at the moment is slapping the pages, ha ha!
We received Once Upon an Alphabet for Xmas and I love it so much. It's kind of dark in a funny way (that S doesn't understand yet) so it keeps me entertained as well.
It sounds like the Chris Van Allsberg book "The Z was Zapped," which I loved when I was younger.
I haven't heard of any of these, though a few covers looked familiar. I'm going to send the list to my MIL, she's at B&N weekly, and DD's birthday is coming up.
I got DD The Book With No Pictures by BJ Novak and she loves it. I also got her This Is Not My Hat, and I think we love it more than her MIL got her a pop up (original) Peter Pan years ago, and that's become a favorite all of a sudden She went to bed last night with all 3 Knuffle Bunny books, yay
I just ordered Have You Seen My Dragon and Once Upon an Alphabet for DS, based on that list.
Current favorites in our house (DS is 22 months):
- Little Elliott, Big City - Olivia and Olivia Forms a Band - Knuffle Bunny - Any of the Pigeon books - Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site - Locomotive - Bear Takes a Trip (random book from his Citrus Lane box a couple of months ago)

I knew there was a reason I ordered DS "Dragons Love Tacos"!!!! Actually, that book is annoying as hell, so interesting that its on this list. I haven't heard of any of the other ones.
The only one we have is the Drgons Love Tacos book. It's cute but not my favorite. We don't have Rosie Revere, but we have the first book, Iggy Peck Architecht. I'd like to get Rosie Revere. Dad got Tge Day The Crayons Quit for her birthday and she loves it. We just checked out The Book With No Pictures from the library.
