We have renters through State Farm. Last year when I bought my LV Speedy I called and asked about getting a rider for it and they said none of their policies would cover the purse. Although that's valued under $1K; so maybe there is something available for higher value purses.
eta: Perhaps based on Nacho's post below our deductible is $1k. I can check tonight and get back to you.

Yes. I asked my husband and he's an insurance agent. He says it might depend on the policy, but they're usually covered. It's probably best to ask your agent just to be safe though. I guess the problem is that there is usually a deductible (ours is $500) and all of my handbags are <$500, so it doesn't make sense for me to make a claim if something happened. However, if someone broke into our house and stole a bunch of stuff, or if there was a fire that caused us to lose most of our possessions, a $500 deductible is nothing when it comes to replacing a bunch of stuff. KWIM? Let me know if you have any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them
Our house was broken into in December and they stole 2 handbags for me (~$1500). I didn't have them on a separate rider, but I had no problems claiming with the other items that were taken in our break in. The thieves even took 5 pairs of Chanel sunglasses, 2 DVF dresses and a few other f&b item and SF paid out the replacement value without batting an eye. All I had to do was submit pictures or receipts of the stolen items.
They took out our $500 deductible and then paid out the depreciated value of all of the stuff that was stolen then as we replaced the stuff they cut us a check to cover the replacement value.

Yikes! I wonder if one of the robbers was a girl. How in the world would a guy know to steal DVF dresses? I hadn't even heard of her until this board. Good to know that these types of things can be covered and a reminder that I need to go snap some pictures.

The police thinks that either there was a girl involved or the thief was stealing it for his GF or whoever.
Out of everything that was stolen, I was most mad about this stuff.
Typically people only have riders on things that are limited by insurance. These things are usually jewelry, furs, fine arts, guns, etc. The limits only applies to theft. So if a fire burns down your house you'll get the full value anyway. Only from a theft are you capped at usually $1,500 (varies by policy and by company) per category. I've never seen handbags as a limited cap so I wouldn't feel the need to specifically schedule them.
