Tea tree oil did not work for me. Nothing worked for me, but I did not treat it very aggressively. I had it on two toes and it never spread any further, and it cleared up with time, by which I mean 18 months to two years. I did not wear sandals that entire time, but my nails are fine now. I stayed away from soaking my feet in general, and was very careful about keeping them dry. I was a fanatical sock changer during that time.
DH has had 2 nails with it for 10+ years. The navy freaked him out because whatever they wanted to prescribe had infertility side effects. He won't try anything now. It hasn't spread though. I refuse to look at his feet.
I would scrub my toenail in the shower with a nail brush, then dip a Qtip in tea tree oil and rub on the nail after I got out of the shower. It took about 6 weeks to get better.
@jennyanddots, you and me can sit on the "nasty toenails" bench together, but it sounds like some other ladies have it too. I figure it's better to have it now in the winter and on maternity leave than in the summer. Hopefully I can get it cleared up by then so I can wear sandals.
One of my big toes has this. Using tea tree oil helped but it takes a long time! I just didn't do it long enough to kill it all off. Using the stuff was a mess it was so inconvenient. My bottle spilled in the car during a move so I was done at that point. There was an article in the paper about laser treatment in my area but I seem to remember it was crazy expensive, like $1000.

Oh, and a side effect happened after taking the meds. They are antifungals. So you know how your balance can be thrown off in your hush hush area when you take an antibiotic? Well, it can apparently be thrown off the other way with long term antifungal use.
I don't even know that the counter measure for that would be. Instead of eating probiotics and yogurt, eat more mushrooms and Bleu cheese? Sent from my SM-G900V using proboards
