raynes sent me some lovely lace alpaca yarn in our April 2012 yarn exchange! (I got it yesterday but I haven't taken a picture yet! Thank you so much! I love it!) So now I need a good project for it. Preferably free. Knit or crochet, though I think I'd prefer knit. I have 3 skeins.
If you're up for a shawl, this is not free, but this pattern is so gorgeous and well-written: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fanflower-fling It was challenging but not unmanageable and really satisfying to knit.
There are lots of lace shawls. Or are you looking for something else? Someone on here posted a laceweight top, I'll see if I can find it
Non-shawl, because I won't wear it. I don't really need a scarf in laceweight, I won't wear it. I'd like a shrug, but I might have to modify a shawl pattern. A top would be nice too.
I am with you on the shawl thing. I would never wear one so I definitely don't want to knit them. I do, however love the look and feel of lace weight yarn.
I have made both of these (both paid, but also both worth it) and loved them. I am planning on making another of both.
Also, I am just throwing this out there because I seem to recall you saying something about just getting into knitting with animal fibres. If I'm thinking of someone else feel free to ignore this. Alpaca has no memory, so make sure that whatever you choose doesn't have a lot of shaping to it. Also, actually washing and blocking your swatch is a lot more important than it is with other fibres.
