What destinations have you chosen to go back to? (Not counting return visits for other reasons - e.g. to see friends/family, business trips, to attend weddings and other events, etc.)
For the last > 30 years, my family has taken a 2 week beach vacation to Stone Harbor/Avalon, NJ every year. For the last 25+, we've rented the same house. I've never missed it, although it's been a long time since I've gone for the full 2 weeks.
I've also gone to Ireland twice, with at least a couple places on both itineraries. The first time was with my mom, the second with Calvin and another couple a few years later.
- How many times have you been? For Avalon? 32 or so years, plus countless day trips. For Ireland, twice.
- Why did you decide to go back? (e.g. your SO had never been; you didn't see/do everything you wanted; you just love it!) Calvin had never been, and I loved it so I was game to go again.
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again?
I've also been to Hawaii twice, Oahu the first time and Big Island/Kauai the second. I would like to go to Hawaii again, maybe to Maui or I could see re-doing Kauai or BI again. I could also see going back to Italy, although there are a few other places I might like to see a first time before I do that.
New York, NY - 3x. 2 are with friends, one with DH because he's never been. Sedona, AZ - 4x at least. Also, Phoenix, AZ. 1 with friends, several with an ex/DH. Sedona is one of my favorite places because of all of the easy and accessible hiking spots. Las Vegas - at least once every year for the last 15 years. Because gambling, buffet, shopping. San Francisco\Napa - 3x+. Wine and romance, and shopping. Lake Tahoe, CA - 3x. Perfect for skiing or summer activities. Puerto Rico - 2x. The first was a solo trip. The second trip was a cruise stop with DH so I got to play tourist guide. It's good for adventures, and easy to navigate. San Diego - 6x? The weather and Coronado Island.
Of the above, I would love most to go back to Puerto Rico and check out Vieques (snorkeling) and Ponce (surfing). Otherwise, I would love to go back to this tiny town called Portinatx in Ibiza.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? -Hawaii, approx 12x - I was born there and we traveled there every other year or so growing up and we flew cheaply b/c my dad was an airline employee. On our own dime, we are going back in April for the 2nd time (it will be H and my 3rd time there together). My parents are spending the winter there and I can't wait to show the kids where I was born! This is Oahu, specifically.
Mexico, 6x - 3/4 college spring breaks, hs senior year spring break, Christmas with the fam. Would go back again b/c it's easy to get to and reasonably priced for a family vacation. I love any beach!
Estes Park, CO, 2x, returning for a 3rd time in June. I'd done day trips there with my family growing up but H, the kids and I will be camping in RMNP for the 3rd time this summer. We spend the last couple nights in Estes Park and we love it. We kind of went on a whim the first time and had so much fun camping that we extended our time there last year and now it's something of a tradition.
NYC, approx 5x - because can you ever see/do/eat everything that NYC has to offer?
Vegas, 5x - because it's Vegas. lol.
There are other places I've been to more than once but a lot of them were when I was a dependent and got my dad's airline benefits. Man, I miss that. The above are places I've gone to independently/with DH.
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again? Negril - where H and I went on our HM Costa Rica - we went for SIL's wedding in 2013 and it was such an amazing trip various European countries, the Philippines, Guam, San Francisco - want to experience with H and the kids
So pretty much everywhere I've ever been, lol. This is always a struggle I have when planning a trip - go some place that I've been to and loved or try some place new.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? Paris - just one of my favorites, I love French food and I'm a Francophile who has been trying to learn French for years. Will be going for the 5th time or so in 2 months.
London - studied abroad there and did a quick 2 day trip another time. I'm excited to go my first time as an "adult" in 2 months and will get to see RocknVoll!
We've been to Italy many times, however only repeat we've done in Italy is Rome twice
Napa Valley - we love wine
New York - besides friends we love the dining scene
Bangkok - happened to be flying through there on the way home from another Asia destination
- How many times have you been?
- Why did you decide to go back? (e.g. your SO had never been; you didn't see/do everything you wanted; you just love it!)
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again?
I'd love to go back to Madrid as H has not been
We're planning a return to Positano for our 10th wedding anniversary. The funny thing is, 10 years later and a much higher income and we don't feel like we can afford our honeymoon hotel!
We'd love to go back to Montenegro & Croatia. It's just such a flight and I can really only take a week of vacation at a time so it's not in the cards now.
South Africa is high up on our list for a return safari
We did a quick stopover in Tokyo and we'd like to go back for longer
I'm glad you booked South Georgia! We are there right now and my initial impression is that I like it more than Antarctica. We will see how I feel at the end of it all but it is really amazing so far!
Really?! I feel like aside from the king penguins, I won't like it as much because it doesn't have the sweeping snow & ice landscapes that I love! Glaciers, sea ice, and tabular icebergs left a much bigger impression on me than the wildlife.

I've chosen to go back to London because it's one of my favorite cities (and the site of my engagement), and Istanbul because of the great layover options provided by Turkish Air. Istanbul isn't one of my favorites, but IMO it's a very tourist friendly city that can be fully enjoyed during a long layover.
I'd like to return to Paris again. We honeymooned in Paris, but we were very young, naive about travel, and absolutely broke. Now that we're more seasoned travelers, I'd like to give Paris a second chance.
I'd also want to return to Ubud, Bali (retirement home?), Hong Kong (foodie heaven), and Tokyo (only spent 3 days there).

- How many times have you been? Barcelona-2 Rome-2 New York-4+
- Why did you decide to go back? Barcelona- We honeymooned there and then did a road trip through the country a few years later and just wanted to end up there again. I really love that city and I generally love everything. Rome- It had been a few years and when my parents wanted to go on their first trip to Europe we jumped on board and had one of the coolest Thanksgivings ever. New York- I love visiting the city and there is always something to do/see.
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again? I will always go back to Spain. It is hard for me to plan a new trip and not go back. For the most part most of my trips are visits to new places.
Paris. Have been in Paris 5 times. Because it's perfection to me. Everything about it is magical. Am going again for sure.
Barcelona. Have been there 2ce. The first time with my parents, I adored it. So when I had an opportunity to tag on a trip somewhere close to Basel, I wanted to return, to see it without the need to visit sites, but just to enjoy the city. I can't wait to return again.
New York. Have been there 10 times. Because it's perfection in the US. Would go again.
London: everything is so chic and cool. Have been there 3x. Will definitely go again.
Costa Rica: have been there 2ce, though each time to different regions, every time as wild and adventurous as I want it to be. Will definitely go again.
Edinburgh. Fucking fantastic, old, beautiful, quirky. Have been there 2ce. Will go again.
San Francisco. Have been there 6x. What's not to love. Food, ambiance, art, everything, will go again.
All the Caribbean Islands I have on repeat, but I have an unfair advantage. I love them more now than when I lived there, because the grass is always green and all that jazz.
Places I've been only once and want to return, everywhere. There's very few places I don't want to return, actually.
