I spend a lot of time thinking about new places to see, but this week's travel poll is about the places you've visited more than once.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? (Not counting return visits for other reasons - e.g. to see friends/family, business trips, to attend weddings and other events, etc.) - How many times have you been? - Why did you decide to go back? (e.g. your SO had never been; you didn't see/do everything you wanted; you just love it!)
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again?
Germany and Charlottesville, VA, several times each.
We went back to Germany because we loved the wineries, villages, culture, and history. We went back to Charlottesville because its a quick day trip with wineries, peach/apple orchards, cute restaurants, etc.
I want to go back to Puerto Rico (honeymoon), San Francisco (went when I was young and single a couple times), and Switzerland (I remember it as being the most beautiful place I could ever imagine and I want to see if I was right or just young and hadn't traveled as much.)
Paris (3) First return was when I found cheap plane tickets to go for spring break during college. Second was because XH had never been. (Current SO has also never been, so I'm probably going to be looking at Trip 4 eventually.)
Hawaii (2) My XH had never been, and I wanted to see the active lava flow on the Big Island.
Xian (2) Went the first time with my parents while my XH was out of town, so I went back with him. And to hike Hua-shan.
Barcelona (2) XH had never been. I was not so keen at the time to return.
Bergen (3) First trip back was a cruise port call, but we saw all the things we didn't see the first time. Second return was with my parents when they visited.
Geiranger (2) Took my parents here, too.
Tromsø (2) Went back in the winter to try to see the Northern Lights. (Might try again at some point.)
Stockholm (2) SO had never been.
Tokyo (2) SO had never been.
Kyoto (2) My first visit was on a Chinese group tour, and I didn't really get a feel for the city. I wanted to go back and visit on our own.
San Francisco (2) Returned as a cruise port call, but I'd never been to Alcatraz and really wanted to do that.
Ho Chi Min City (2) Cheap flights, and SO had never been.
Upcoming: Antarctica (2) I just put down a deposit on my return trip in Nov 2016. SO really wants to go, and I loved it and have always wanted to go back. Also, I didn't visit South Georgia on my last trip, but I'd eventually return even without that bonus.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? Napa/Sonoma; Hawaii; Paris; New Zealand
- How many times have you been? Napa/Sonoma - 6 times Hawaii - 8, plus I lived on Oahu for a year Paris - 3 NZ - 2
- Why did you decide to go back? (e.g. your SO had never been; you didn't see/do everything you wanted; you just love it!) The first trip to NZ was for our honeymoon and we went back for our 10 year anniversary, but for the rest we just loved all of them.
ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again? In addition to the 4 above, Ireland, Japan, India (we've been a few times for family obligations and my husband went a bunch growing up, but there are touristy things we still want to do).
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime. Mark Twain

London (2) - I loved it there the first time and didn't get to do everything I wanted. Plus it just seemed like the logical place to end my three week UK trip.
NYC (too many times to count) - I love the city, it is always changing, I am a NY sports fan, and love to go to Broadway shows. Plus it's only a 3.5 hour train ride from DC.
Philadelphia (4) - it's an easy train ride from DC, I like that it is a walkable city, and I have been a few Mets/Phillies games.
Pittsburgh (3) - it was only a three hour drive from Columbus when I lived in Ohio, plus there were some baseball games and concerts I wanted to go to with friends.
I would really like to go back to Spain (especially Barcelona), Iceland, Ireland, Paris, and Scotland.
I haven't had the opportunity to do return trips yet.
But I was going through my old photo of my trip to Berlin. I went in February where it was only sunny 1 of the 5 days. Haha. So I would totally plan a trip back for spring/summer. I've wanted to go back anyway!
I moved from Chicago almost a year ago. And I think I did a total of 10 side trips down there for sightseeing and cultural things since. Plus for other things. Lol.

London - H studied here in college and it was pretty easy to get to from Seattle Paris (6x) - I first visited when I was 16, we went on our honeymoon and it's been so easy to get to from London that it's a quick weekend trip for us. We're going back next month even. Which places do you plan/want to return again?
Iceland Australia Vietnam Edinburgh New Orleans Charleston
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? - How many times have you been? - Why did you decide to go back?
Hawaii - 4x - 2x were family/friend trips, once to scout wedding locations and once to get married. Paris - 2x - once as a teen, once with a friend London - 2x (3x? I can't remember) - went with family both times NYC - who knows - 5x? More? - gone with friends, family, exH. Costa Rica - once with exH, once with friends on a surf trip Mexico - 3x Riviera Maya, 1x Puerto Vallarta - Its an easy flight, beautiful location and overall a good deal. Why not? New Orleans - 3x - 1x for Superbowl, 2x with friends - SO.MUCH.GOOD.FOOD!
Which places do you plan/want to return again? I really liked Brussels and Bruges, would go back. So charming. I did a whirlwind tour of Italy - I'd go back in a heartbeat. Around every corner was something interesting. I exclaimed every day - I can't believe people get to live here.
I don't need to go back to Hawaii - only cause I've been and there are other places on my list. I don't need to go back to Costa Rica either - it's fine, I wasn't overly enamored with it. Just happened to be where my surf trip was - which I would do again in a second. You couldn't pay me to go back to Vegas. Oh wait - except for the RnR half. I'd maybe do that.
We haven't had time/budget to do any return trips yet, but we're planning to go back to South Africa for our 10th anniversary trip. I really, really loved it there and wish we had gotten to spend more time.

The only two I can think of that we've gone back to are NYC (too many times to count) and Amsterdam (twice).
We go back to NYC because I went to school there and I miss it terribly. Any chance I get, we go back.
We went back to Amsterdam because we took my baby brother on a graduation trip to Europe and felt like we couldn't miss it for an 18 year old. The first trip was our honeymoon, so they were pretty drastically different trips.
Places we'd like to go back to: Iceland, Alaska, Panama and Tanzania.

I've been to Rome twice, Madrid twice (both return trips were with H), NYC, New Orleans and London several times (I have family in NO and London, lots of friends in NYC). I've also been to Iceland 5-6 times, again because of family.
Besides the places where we have family, the reason I've returned is usually a matter of convenience or because H hadn't been there yet.
I think the list of place I wouldn't go back to is much shorter than the places I want to go back to!
I didn't enjoy Prague at all, but I would give it another chance. I'm pretty sure if I never went back to Chicago that I wouldn't be sad about it. I definitely NEVER want to go on another cruise.
Places I want to return just to vacation, not just to visit family are Venice, Budapest, Lake Bled Slovenia, Lisbon.
Paris (4x) always an adventure for me to see how my French has progressed (hopefully), and love that when I go now, no specific agenda, navigate the Metro like a champ, already made all of necessary stops and when I return, it's the combination of familiar and foreign, the same crepe place, Complines at Sacre Couer, time garden sitting/kir drinking w/o worrying that I'm missing something, and then adding a new experience, small tour, dinner with Meet the French.
Quebec (7x) same reasons, this one, H goes too, so it's 'our' place, drive up almost every year, plan our summer vac around some "fest" in QC and plans to try new restaurants, see new museum exhibits, but stay at the same auberge, make the usual stops, the foreign and familiar again.
Want to return: Vienna, Venice, Beaune
Except for the above two, still busy trying to see everything else for the 1st time, so much in awe of every one else's repeats. Any one else a sentimental idiot and afraid that they won't love the city as much as they had the first time if they returned?
We keep going back to Vail and Lake Tahoe (Heavenly) for snowboarding trips. They are the best in the world in my opinion. I traveled all the way from Dubai to go snowboarding in Tahoe last month.
I will also go back to the Serengeti on safari at some point. I would really like to take DD there before we move away from Dubai. It was so amazing!

What destinations have you chosen to go back to? -- I've done several cruise itineraries multiple times. Western Caribbean three times, and Canada/New England six times. And we've done pre- and post-cruise stays in Quebec and Montreal with each cruise. I've also made return journeys to Adelaide and Melbourne (before I moved there).
- How many times have you been? -- Grand Cayman, 3; Key West, 3; Montego Bay, 3; Cozumel 2; Quebec, 6; Montreal, 4; Saguenay, 5; Charlottetown, 5; Halifax 6; Bar Harbor, 6; Boston, 4; Charleston, 3; St. John, Newfoundland, 2; Sydney, Nova Scotia, 6; and Adelaide, 2; Melbourne, 3.
- Why did you decide to go back? -- I really enjoyed the first Canada/new England cruise and prefer to redo that itinerary rather than different ones. The Caribbean itinerary I did on different cruise lines and to share it with my family. Adelaide I went with DH -- he had never been and we planned engagement ring shopping there; and Melbourne was to share the experience with DH (before I married him) and for a Simon & Garfunkel concert
- Which places do you plan/want to return again? -- I'm definitely going to do the Canada/New England cruise again, we have it planned for 2017. I'd love to go back to Adelaide and Kangaroo Island. And I want to take DH to the Baltic to experience the midnight sun.

Lisbon/Cascais: I love the city and want to retire there one day. I have been there three times and would love to return this summer.
Las Vegas: I think I have been there 7 times. My parents used to take me a lot as a kid but I have been there on my own as well. I love the restaurants and nightlife there.
Bahamas: i have been there five times because of cruising.
Barcelona: I love the city and have taken two cruises from there.

Where have I been multiple times? London: Used to live there, I just generally have gone there a lot. Brussels: Went there a whole lot. Croatia: Went multiple times, love it. New England: Went repeatedly in the summers for a number of years with some of my family. Philadelphia: Went as a kid, went back last Fall.
Where would I like to go again? There are a number of places. I like to mix up travel, sometimes repeating and sometimes going new places. Slovenia - I would really like to explore more of it. Honestly, there are fewer places that I wouldn't go back than that I would. I will eventually go back to London but it is not a high priority right now because I have done it so many times. I am open to seeing a lot more. Scandinavia - It is personally significant and I have a lot more to see. Egypt - I really did not have enough time to even skim the surface. It is fascinating. Ireland - I would like to see more of it than I did the first time.

Which places do you plan/want to return again?

I spend a lot of time thinking about new places to see, but this week's travel poll is about the places you've visited more than once.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? Rome 10x- my xh was from rome, i did a sememster of school there, i love italy especially

ETA Which places do you plan/want to return again?
Ecuador (2 trips), both were school related (undergrad and grad). I chose to go back a 2nd time though (vs Belize which was another option) for the adventure of it, and because I was familiar with the country.
Italy (2 trips), went back with my mom on the second trip because I was dying to go somewhere, anywhere and I managed to convince her to take a trip with me by dangling Italy in front of her because it was her dream trip.
Paris (soon to be 2 in April), going back a second time because my husband really pushed for it and we are taking my nephew on his first overseas trip. We just really enjoyed the city.
I would love to go back to Amsterdam (and the rest of the country). I'd go back to any of the international destinations I've visited, but I usually prefer to see new places so put places I've been to further down on my priority list. I'd totally go to Hawaii again too.
We go back to Cocoa Beach FL every few years because ILs have a time share. It's nice to escape too when the weather here sucks, but I'm kind of meh about it.
I love Yellowstone NP and would go there a bazillion times.
Been to Chicago lots because it is convenient and always something to do. We usually go when we are seeing a show or some other purpose.
What destinations have you chosen to go back to? Paris, Prague, London, Negril, Cancun
How many times have you been?
Multiple times to Paris, Prague & London. One return visit each to Negril & Cancun.
Why did you decide to go back?
Paris & London are an easy day/weekend away and H had never been to Paris. My BFF is from Prague so we had access to a flat there + H had never been. We got good deals for Cancun & Negril (+ we got married in Negril so we'd have gone back anyway).
Which places do you plan/want to return again? I'd still go back to Negril, though not in the immediate future. We went to Norway in summer and I'd love to go back further North to try and see the lights.
Ireland x5 and Chicago, too many times to remember
- Why did you decide to go back?
I love the culture and scenery in Ireland. Chicago is an easy 5 hour drive and is just a fun city to visit, no matter what time of year. San Francisco is just beautiful, and relaxing - always so much to do and see.
We have gone back to Hawaii (3x, including Maui 2x) because we LOVE IT. We will go to the BIg Island next, and Kauai.
I have gone to Paris twice. The first time was backpacking, the second time was with my Dh and my parents. I liked it, but I probably won't go back again, TBH. I much prefer other European cities. I have been to London, England twice and would return in a heartbeat.
I have been to Florida like 10x because its easy to get to from Canada and a nice escape from the winter. We also own two condos there and my ILs live there in the winter.
Paris, France (before I ever lived there I had already been on 5 separate occasions) Lisbon, Portugal- 4x Puerto Rico (I used to go for work, but have been back for pleasure many times)- lost track of the number of times Spain- also lost track of number of times, but I try to switch up the region I focus on each time I go (with the exception of Madrid where I have family) Buenos Aires, Argentina- 2x Rome, Italy- 2x
- How many times have you been?
See above
- Why did you decide to go back?
I just love those places
ETA
Which places do you plan/want to return again?
Istanbul, Turkey Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Paris, France- I will never get enough of it Bruges, Belgium- because of the cute little beer place that was the comfiest bar I've ever been to in my life. I think you've been there, too, GilliC.
NYC, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, various Jersey Shore towns (countless) - easy day trips
Boston (countless) - we go every year for a concert, my family's gone up for Sox games, and sometimes we've just gone for fun.
Montreal (4 times) - great food, scenery, people
Lake George (2) - we went there once during the summer, and picked it again for our honeymoon a few years later
Chicago (2 for vacation, 1 for business) - the city just has a good vibe
Washington DC (2 for vacation, 1 for business) - great sightseeing
Ireland (2) - both times were with family, once with MH
Maine (several) - I had/have family there so we used to go up a lot when I was young Which places do you plan/want to return again?
London, Chicago, Washington DC, Montreal, Maine (so MH can see it), Vermont, maybe Portland again since we only had a short time there last year. I might go back to Vegas if our friends could come with us.
