I just got off the phone with the advising team at my school and they told me that the class I took at a local community college to replace a class in my degree plan won't transfer over. Before I even took this class I checked with my current college to make sure it would take the place of the class in my degree plan. They told me that since the class was a IT class and not a Business type IT class that it wouldn't count toward my core degree classes. I'm so fucking pissed right now. I'm going to search through my email to see if I can find the documents that PROVE that the class I took at a local community college is supposed to transfer over. Both classes are the SAME DAMN SUBJECT! There's literally NO difference in curriculum. I did my freaking research before taking this class and NOW they tell me it would take the place of this business class! WTF!?!
/rant over but still pissed
Update: Found my proof! Thankfully I don't delete a whole lot of email out of that college account because I found the class transfer request where it says that the class I took at the local community college takes place of the class at my current college. BOOM. Now I need to call them bitches.

Did you receive confirmation from them, especially in writing?
I had this happen in undergrad with a sociology class.
I went to the previous school's course catalog and got the description, then compared it to the class at the current school. My advisor did what he needed to do and got it approved. Hopefully you can do the same!

I should have it in email form. I just need to look. It's distance education type deal so I don't get a lot of snail mail from them.

That's what I did essentially in the very beginning. Maybe I need to talk to the right person.
Ok. If you can, find the email. Even if you just find the copy that you sent (and not the response). Universities will go by catalog year for equivalents. So for example- if you emailed an advisor about a course back in 2012 and they gave you the go ahead- maybe it was the equivalent then, but it no longer is. Regardless, they should still accept the course as an equivalent if you were told that it was. And while it might not show as an equivalent in the system at first glance, they should be able to dig deeper and determine that it WAS the equivalent back when you took it, and that it should count.
If you cannot find the email- bring a copy of the course syllabus- NOT the catalog description- to the advising office. Call and see if you can email it, and get the name of the person who you should email it to. They will probably have one person who reviews these, and it might not be the person you talked to.
Call your cc advisor and ask if they have an afiliation agreement with the university. Several schools have these with cc's that are close by. They basically state that if you take _____ courses they will sub for ______ courses at the university, no questions asked. Your cc advisor is more likely to know this than the university advisor.
Honestly....finding that email is your best bet. Advisors make mistakes. It isn't common (I hope), but it happens. They're people too. If you have the email and can prove that you received confirmation of the equivalency in writing, then they will most likely approve it. I've never seen these NOT approved when it was obvious that the advisor made the mistake. If you cannot find the email and its just he said/she said, and the other avenues that I mentioned above don't work....you will probably be out of luck. I'm sorry.

If you have issues, let me know
Thanks so much! I did find the email and I'm going to call the academic advising people to hopefully straighten this out.

Also, if you don't get anywhere with an advisor, try the transcript evaluator or the department chair. Both of these individuals may have more knowledge in this case and may be able to help.
