We had a coed shower and it was awesome. It was basically a BBQ/picnic and some gifts (no games). If they can't do it at home, maybe a local park has a picnic shelter? Not sure what April is like in NY.
I would do optional baby shower games rather than organized ones, like games set out on a table that people can do if they want but it isn't a "okay everyone, stop talking and having fun and fill out this stupid worksheet" game.
Or just skip them all together. I didn't have any games at my shower.
Just have food and alcohol and it should be lots of fun! I like shower games like "the Price is Right" or where both parents answer the same questions.
I'd just have a party. I know most people hate baby shower games anyway, so just skip them and have good food and drinks. I guess I don't realy see how a coed baby shower is any different than any other party other than the expectation for gifts?
We're hosting a co-ed shower for some friends next week. It will be pretty small and laid back, we're having it at our house. Getting gourmet tacos and tex-mex catered from a trendy place in the neighborhood. Cake and ice cream. Wine and beer. Scotch and cigars on the deck weather permitting for the guys (or girls, although I don't think any of the women in the group like cigars). For "games" we are doing an optional "fill in the advice card / guess the baby's due date, weight, etc" thingy and Baby Taboo for anyone who wants to play. Favors will be mini bottles of Champagne or fancy sparkling soda with a note to save and toast the new baby when he arrives.
MIL did one game that we liked -- she gave everyone a sheet of paper with MYNAME MIDDLE LAST and MSNIQSNAME MIDDLE LAST, and then asked people to come up with baby names using only those letters (and only as often as they appeared -- so if there was only one "W" you could only use it once, etc.). At the end the mom and dad pick their favorite name(s) and those people get prizes.
Half of the names people came up with were serious, and the other half were just sort of ridiculous. Like, not even Rocco and Prune ridiculous -- things like Dracula and Aprone' (pronounce a-PRO-nay, I think) and "Lube". Because I married into a family of trolls. I made a web page that generated new names from their lists randomly, so you can see what they came up with.
My boss and coworkers through us a co-ed shower. I am not a fan of baby showers in general so it was perfect. It was just a big party with lots of food and booze and presents. No shower games necessary!
I didn't want a girlie baby shower, it's just not me. I really wanted the shower to be more of a fun gathering with all of our friends and not exclude the husbands....I'm friends with them too. There was a cake that had a stroller on it but that was the extent of the baby themed decorations. My MIL hosted it at her complex's pool cabana and we had a BBQ. I had a lot of fun and so did my husband.
I threw a baby shower last year and the BEST thing I did was have onesie decorating. I bought a bunch of plain (both white and solid color) onesies in a variety of sizes for them to decorate. Puffy paint from Michaels and some iron-on transfers from Etsy... HUGE hit. I bought 30 onesies for 10 girls and they were all decorated early on.
No help on anything else since we went kind of girly, but had to share that part
