Someone on my local board is getting rid of her cat - who has SEIZURES - for free and needs it gone by tomorrow. She said she just can't afford to keep feeding it because of her other animals. I kind of want to shank her. She's leaving the cat on the porch and whoever wants it can take it. No one has asked yet what she is doing with the poor thing if no one takes it.

Holy shit I would let her have it! That's insane! Poor kitty!
The power is out in half our building. Our lights and computers work (not all offices are so lucky), but there's NO HEAT. I know we're not in blizzard territory, but it's about 50 degrees in this office right now. I am displeased.

Promise not to tell MM this? The Dear Prudie thread made me think of it. DH met with a financial adviser the other day and they laid everything out on the table. He asked how feasible it would be, at his current level of retirement contributions, to retire at age 55. The guy told him he had a 1% chance of making that happen. And I think he was just being nice about that 1%. Bahahaha.
Oh, and they shut down all the power at work, so I'm in my cozy house now. Victory is mine!
I need cake advice. I'm making my BIL's birthday cake. Sister is throwing him a party next weekend. She'd like the cake to be a little bit over the top (that is left to my own interpretation) and she wants it to say: Achievement Unlocked Old Man
(He's a gamer.)
So the top of the cake will essentially have this one it:
Suggested flavors were carrot cake, chocolate or peanutbuttery stuff. Given the dark background of the logo, I'm definitely leaning chocolate so I don't have to fuss with black food coloring, because that shit tastes awful. I could do a small amount of gray though, just for the actual oval, on a deep dark ganache style icing (the closest I can get to black without making something I won't eat). Would you do that, or maybe just do a lighter chocolate for the oval?

I finished my last STTNG book this morning and Hammered hasn't come in yet. I'm seriously considering going to pick up another ST book to fill the gap.
On a related note, rather than work today I've been mentally planning my Star Trek vow renewal. That won't happen for at least two more years. Which brings me back to: "The only thing I ever thought was hard is do I like Kirk or do I like Picard?" Maybe I'll opt out and go Spock.
My random (other than my integrity dilemma I posted separately):
Last week or so I got into a FB PM war with my SIL again. She called me mentally sick because I take antidepressants. I tried to overlook that and not get caught in her web of drama and extended an olive branch to see how we could get along better for my brother's sake. She refused and said, "when we have to be around each other, I will be polite and cordial, but know this: I do not like you."
Ouch.
Then she proceeded to call me Satan because I quoted several Bible verses at her demonstrating how Jesus would call her a hypocrite for judging gays and condemning anyone who supports them when she puts her mom on a pedestal after her mom cheated on her dad with her trainer.
My poor brother. I tried to extend the olive branch because I love him, but got sucked into the drama with my SIL. I look forward to 2028. I am pretty sure my brother will file for divorce then, once the kids have graduated high school. In the meantime I pray for him and them. Hard.
Oh, calling you "mentally sick" is just rude. That woman is rude.
I would respond, "I AM mentally sick... mentally sick of all your ignorant remarks about homosexuals. At least it's just a chemical imbalance for me and I can take pills, your issues are based in personality and there's no pill to fix your callous personality."

Mmmmmm, ganache. Ahhhhhh. I think you have an excellent plan.

The internet is out but only on my computer. I am using a coworker's but Adobe crashes every time I open it. Clearly I need to just say fuck it and go home.

KIND OF?!
I can make you a shiv if that's the problem. I am just saying.
I ordered a text book. Used. Listed in good condition. $125.00. I had to rush it and pay extra because I couldn't find it anywhere but Amazon and classes were starting. I got it and it was severely water damaged with broken spine and some moldy pages.
I requested refund. They offered replacement, but then couldn't get a replacement, which doesn't surprise me since the book was so goddamn hard to find. So they did refund me the entire amount, but they also told me they don't want to pay to ship it back since.they would just throw it away.
So now I can't find a replacement and I'm actually having to use.this nasty ass moldy water damaged book. Do I need to pay them something for it since I'm.now using it.
To add interest to the debate, it's an ethics text book.
Nope. Not shitty. They sent you an item that was not in the condition it was listed in and told you to keep it.

Oh seriously, fuck her. That poor cat. I hope someone takes the kitty in. Just seriously light her shit on fire.
For the past 6 weeks I have been fortunate to have people here "helping" me, but I am SOOOOO glad everyone is leaving here tomorrow. It's been 6 weeks of people constantly in my face asking, "what should we be doing now?" "where does this go?" "why is the baby crying?" "what is the weather going to be today?" ........ omg, I can't.
They are all leaving tomorrow, including my H and BOTH children (BOTH!) to go on a family trip with my in-laws. This will be me tomorrow at 2pm:
Oh, my own random. I can't clock in or out at work. Apparently, it's the first time this specific problem (the buttons aren't responsive when clicked) has ever happened with the company we are using. So I guess I'm just special. At least I'm still getting paid.

Nope. There's a lesson to be learned about misrepresenting your product. Keep it... and maybe wear a mask and gloves while reading.
I can't help sneaking off from my in-laws to check my phone to see what you all are doing over here when their conversations are SOOO boring. Why are we STILL talking about the weather? And how loud the trains by your house are (they aren't)? And the new light fixtures?
I'm so overwhelmed at work right now. Almost 50% of my clients have already returned their stuff and it's not even the end of January! They all expect the work to be completed right now, too. It's impossible. I'm in the process of freaking out.

So I ordered a Chinese qipao to wear for Chinese New Year. I got a XXL because I know Chinese sizes run really small. Y'all, this scrap of fabric wouldn't fit a size 4. I am 14 on a good day! How depressing.
My boss walked into a shop in China and the storekeeper took one look at her and said "we don't sell things in your size." She's maybe a 10! Yikes.

Um, if I put red potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots and fennel into a pan and roast it together with rosemary will that be gross or okay? What if I add parm?
