Inspired by adorable Major Tom How did you choose your current pet's name? How have you chosen previous pets' names? For fun, list all your previous pets' names (and type if you want)
How did you choose your current pet's name? H and I came up with the name Conan while we were driving back home from Pasco (where we adopted him). Conan is long/lanky and red-ish, so we named him after our favorite ginger late-night show comedian. (Conan is a chihuahua/terrier mix)
How have you chosen previous pets' names? Conan is my first pet since moving out of my mom's house. But when I lived there I was the person who named all the pets, and I only named pets names that ended in "Y," because I liked that my name ends with a "Y," and I'm vain like that. And all the names started with the letter of the type of animal (T for the turtle, and C for the Chihuahuas).
For fun, list all your previous pets' names (and type if you want) Terry, a Malaysian Box Turtle Chucky, a tri-colored chihuahua Corky, a tan chihuahua Conan, a redish/tan chihuahua/toy fox terrier mix
Coco was given to our dog as a temporary name, since her parents' owners had lots of puppies running around and they needed to keep them all straight. I told my BFF how we were getting a puppy, her name was coco and we might change the name... she said we should name her Coco Chanel. It suits her high maintainance personality perfectly We usually call her puppy or coco bear. She only gets the full name if she's in trouble.
My cat growing up was named Sunshine because he was light orange and that's what 9 year old me came up with for him. But my dad called him meathead, and that stuck a lot more.
When I was little, my parents had a cat named Vivace. They named him that because my dad is a musician and vivace means "lively" and that's how he was as a kitten, supposedly.
How did you choose your current pet's name? Ivan - the shelter had given him the name of Hans and his brother the name of Luke "from Star Wars." Um, yeah, it's HAN, whatevs He did not look like a Han or Hans so in the car driving back from Ocean Shores, we discussed that since he's a Siberian, he should have a Russian name. Ivan was the first one I threw out and then we brainstormed more but came back to Ivan.
How have you chosen previous pets' names?I haven't been able to choose most of our family pets' names. I named my first kitty Snowball (all white, hey, I was 5!) Usually it's based off whatever I'm in to at the time (mythology, movies/tv, book) or their breed/coloring. Years later I wanted to name a cat Thyme since I had just discovered tasty herbs, but my mom vetoed since you don't want to yell that off the back deck. The pretty burmese/ragdoll cat I wanted to name Cleocatra but my mom vetoed again. Later, we had Persians from the same litter and I wanted to name them off Greek mythology. My mom kept Apollo but hated Artemis so tried to placate me by naming the girl Cleo.
For fun, list all your previous pets' names (and type if you want) Mom's house, all cats: Speckles (my mama kitty) Snowball Mozzie (the one I wanted to call Thyme) Alex (died after one week ) Mouskie (the one I wanted to call Cleo) Apollo & Cleo
Dad's house: Chelsea (German Shep.) Brunehilde "Bruna" or "Brunie" (little dog) cats: Tony, Callie, Raisin, Marmalade, Miss Kitty birds: Valentino, Frick, Frack, Tweetie, Sylvia
My mother gives animals bizarre names. She once had a cat she named Farquarblinkletweep, no joke! She said she usually called him Blinkie for short. Mozzie was named for...mozzarella. Um. I don't know why she decided to start listing cheeses. Mousskie was because she had a little moustache so my mom went, "Moustache, Moustache-a, Mousse, Mousskie!"
When we get our dog, I'm leaning toward using one of the A names I love for a child but won't use since I don't want my future kid to have AA as his/her initials. If the dog is while we still have Ivan, I'm inclined to make it more a Russian/Slavic name to "go" with him.

I had a cat named Bond. It was actually James Bond, but we shortened it to Bond for ease. He was a tuxedo cat (all black with a white chest and a white moustache). Who wears a tuxedo better than James Bond? No one.
H currently has our kitties in AZ with him... I miss them terribly. They are from the same litter, H picked out the girl kitty, and named her Bella. Not sure where he got that. I picked out the boy kitty, and named him Marcel. Though we never call him Marcel. Somehow I started calling him Bubba Mo (yeah, I don't really even know where I got that) so now he's Bub, Bubs or Bubba.
Dogs Cindy Boone Buster Kirby
Cats JayCee (my Dad named that one.. She was a stray that was in a tree, jumping from branch to branch. Dad named her JC for Jumping Cat. We tried to "fancy it up a bit" with the spelling lol) Looney Mufasa (my first pet after I moved out) Miko
How did you choose your current pet's name? tigger came with his name...but my brother chose it because he could jump (bounce) really high, and his exgf really liked winnie the pooh. How have you chosen previous pets' names? see below For fun, list all your previous pets' names (and type if you want) of the ones *i* named (and not my brother) i'm omitting my first one bc that's often a password-reset question oreo - a hamster that was black and white snowball - a white hamster peanut butter - a brown hamster mommy - a hamster that gave birth two days after we got her baby - the lone survivor of above litter purpy - a purple parakeet greeny - a green parakeet reptar, fluffy, hurbert, and ? - 4 turtles hercules - i was really into greek mythology at the time and i actually called him "zeus" for a few days, but decided that since he was just a puppy, he should be zeus's kid.
How did you choose your current pet's name? H and I started dating in August and also got married in August, so we wanted that as part of the name. His full name is Sir August (Lastname), but we call him Augi.
How have you chosen previous pets' names? There's not really any rhyme of reason for the names, just kind of whatever comes at the time.
For fun, list all your previous pets' names (and type if you want) Cats (we had a lot, nearly all Maine Coon): Lady, Sierra, Toulouse (aka Lucy, when I found out she was a girl), Snow Paws, Misty, Mason, Dutch, Cato, Oreo, Lady Alaina, Adrian, Selena...
Dogs: Campio - Yellow lab Buffy - Shih tzu. Sir Buffy Chance (Lastname) - Shih tzu Macy - German Shepherd Tweety - Cocker spaniel. Fun fact: she was named before us by an elderly lady who could no longer take care of her, and for once we kept the name. We found out later it's because she likes chasing birds.
