One of my coworkers is due in May with her second child. Her first child is 8 so she is basically starting from scratch. She is not having a shower due to family/financial reasons. There are several of us that plan to buy her gifts or chip in for larger item(s). Not everyone will be on board I'm sure. So my question is... Do we pick a day,buy a cake and bring in presents...or is that awkward? Should we take her out to dinner instead? i have no kids or experience with this situation. WWYD?
We always do it at work. Pick a day, book a conference room around lunch time and anyone that wants to participate can swing by. Those that don't like it don't have to participate and since its in a conference room (if your company would allow this) it shouldn't be in anyone's face.

We did it at work for a coworker and surprised her. I booked a conference room in the hospital and decorated, and had lunch catered. The bosses gave a gift from all of them and everyone else brought their own gifts.
You could make it as simple as cake and gifts, I'm sure she will love it no matter what!
Or if someone doesn't really want to buy a gift, they can bring a pack of diapers or something. I know they did something like that for a coworker at my previous job
